Beth was one win away from Softball World Series...she probably bought herself another year or two. That being said, she will never win a Championship at LSU.

The logical thing to do is let her serve out the remainder of her contract, then let her go. Fire every member of her staff except Bryce Neal.

I think the point you were trying to make is the softball team is good and most people complaining aren’t actually day in and day out fan. That’s fair for sure
The point you accidentally made is that we shouldn’t spend money on softball so we can spend it on football?
That’s dumb because not only do sports have budgets but our football program has plenty of money

But he brought up a good question, if we have to pay 20 million dollars a year per the court settlement, where should we make necessary cuts?

the former players on staff all need to go, that's a recipe for continuing to pound your head in the sand
they need a new hitting coach as well, dobson continues to look pedestrian when it comes down to winning regionals and supers, they look lost at times at the plate and this was a veteran team

Depending on how this revenue sharing deal works out how much money is LSU and these other schools going to put into softball going forward?

It loses money and the stars don't get the big endorsement deals like basketball and gymnastics

All these softball coaches making $500k plus are in for a rude awakening

They've got one. That's what Bryce Neal was for, at least that's what I thought.

I do agree that all of Beth's former players that are on staff need to go when she goes.

The state is paying someone to coach softball 400k a year?

For what Beth is producing, I'd say she is overpaid. Lots of loyal fans defend her by saying she wins so many games each year and takes us to a regional or a super regional. But aren't we accepting mediocrity each year by staying with a coach who can't win the big one? Our sights should be set on a national championship...not merely to go to a regional, etc.

After many, many moons as our softball coach, Beth has given us hope each year but we want more than hope. Beth is not good at recruiting high caliber players. TIME TO MOVE ON....

Pretty sure this is not true according to the recruiting services

It more a coaching than a talent problem

Also they aren't firing her this year with the #1 pitcher in the country coming in and another top 10 player

I hope that Heavener does make it to LSU and that she can make an immediate impact. Having her and Sydney Berzon would give us a formidable duo in the circle. Danica Coffey coming back will help a lot, but I'm not sure that the rest of the lineup is SEC caliber. We've got to do better at the plate if we hope to make it back to OKC anytime soon.

I'd say she's producing a top 6 sec program year in year out. how do you translate that to being overpaid. also does it in a professional and clean manner and does a lot of philanthropic work.

So she's the Mark Richt of softball is what you're saying.

People put way too much stock in this. Half of the “top 10 recruits” we have signed over the years haven’t come close to panning out.

I do think Heavener will be good but placing all our eggs into the basket of a freshman is not great. Next year we likely make the tournament but will be traveling for regionals but get bumped down 2 more notches with Texas/OU coming in the SEC. We were the 8 seed in the SECT and lost 6 of our 8 SEC series. Next year will be worse unfortunately

They aren’t firing her this offseason. They will let the next two years play out then make the final decision to cut bait or not. This was the year for Beth to make her run with all these COVID seniors. The reality is the next year or two they will be in a rebuilding phase replacing so much experience and the conference is only getting stronger now

if you dare want to pay for an upgrade, i'm all for supporting the program. calling beth "overpaid" is a pretty silly statement. especially when you consider what the frick does 100k really matter as a whole for the lsu athletic department. that adds nothing to a football program.

I only bring this up as someone who lived in GA for a long time and remember all the arguments from 1 side of UGA fans who wanted to keep Richt around were pretty much saying exactly what you are saying (add in "Christian man", etc) to the other UGA fans that were tired of only being a Top 10 program but never getting over the hump.

I'll also add to the "you gotta pay more for better results" crowd that Kirby Smart's first contract at UGA was for less per year than what Mark Richt left UGA with. We dont have to go out and pay someone $750k to coach softball to get better results, just someone who can actually get us IN the hunt for a change. Not getting to the WCWS for 7 straight years is borderline inexcusable (ok so throw 2020 out, but still).

Walton has 2 titles, 3 runner ups and a ton of CWS in total under his belt at UF and made $30k more than Torina did this year.

Equating the built in recruiting base of Georgia football to LSU softball is beyond retarded.

Except UGA still has never come close to locking down the top talent in their state, and that goes for Richt OR Smart. In fact Smart goes nationally every year and routinely see's GA 5-stars head elsewhere.

This is all beside the point in I think you completely missed, which was Richt kept things interesting at UGA and did it "cleanly" and "was a nice guy" but never really got over the hump. This is similar to the arguments for Torina popping up here.

We made the WCWS 4 times from 2012-2017, that's 4 times in 6 seasons. We havent made it since then, despite it being the same coach who made all 4 of those WCWS. That seems to me like the program can absolutely get over the hump, we just have a captain who has forgotten how to get there.

Pre-season by all the softball fans on here, this was supposed to be THE YEAR we should have been able to make a run. But we find ourselves in the mid-pack of the SEC and out of a super regional once again. Now we're starting to see the same excuses pop up for why Torina needs to stick around and get another half decade or more. Maybe we just need a better coach? It happens time to time, and you dont have to go broke like we did for womens basketball to find a better one necessarily.

Les Miles was good until he wasn't.
All aboard the Coach O train until that derailed.

Just saying, but not everything always stays the same and you have to be able to make changes.
