Apparently SEC officials got furious at CBS for its analysts suggesting Bama bias.

According to Clay Travis,

Outkick

quote:

The tension between the SEC and CBS has not abated this season, by the way, either. Recently on the pregame show before the league’s game on CBS, analyst Brian Jones said he believed the SEC’s league office, which is based in Birmingham, might be biased in favor of Alabama and that was why LSU’s Devin White was suspended for targeting and Alabama’s players have not been.

Host Adam Zucker said as follows: “And it gets reviewed in Birmingham and you’re saying that you think there is more involved than just pure judgment that it was targeting?”

Brian Jones responded: “Well I see flags thrown on certain teams and I see them not thrown on certain teams,” Jones said. “And I’ll leave it at that.”

That’s a pretty blockbuster accusation from the league’s TV partner, that the league is conspiring to favor Alabama. The fact that it aired on CBS left SEC officials furious. It’s one thing when fan message boards light up with accusations that a conference favors one team or another, it’s a different level entirely when the league’s own TV partner says it as part of the league’s pregame telecast.

If this is the straw that breaks the SECs relationship with CBS and brings back night games every week in Death Valley (especially for games like Georgia, Florida, Auburn who don't get the primetime treatment), I will be ecstatic.

ETA: CBS pays the SEC, not the other way around, for the right to broadcast its games. Now the SEC can choose to take its TV rights elsewhere whenever the contract expires, but CBS holds the power in this relationship as its the one filling the SECs coffers. They aren't a mouthpiece for the conference.

quote:

As a result of these contentious negotiations in the wake of conference expansion, it’s highly unlikely the SEC will remain on CBS after the 2023 football season. (CBS has previously told Outkick it intends to extend its deal and maintain its partnership with the league, but the chances of that happening, based on everything I’ve been told, are minimal at best).

I just went from 6 to midnight.

Well, stop being BIASED and you will not have to hear your "partner" say it.

Well if the SEC is getting defensive about those comments, isn't that telling about their bias?

Same reason CBS got rid of Brando
Say too many negative things about Bama and they make you go away

Maybe, Bama gets called for an actual holding penalty on one of THEIR 3rd DOWN PLAYS...

Or maybe they actually get called for a block in the back on their return team

Or maybe, Saturday night in Death Valley, maybe they get called for a late hit or targeting.

Maybe?

I got a feeling Brian Jones will be sacrificed for it. He was very vocal about it and he's usually the loudest one on that set so it definitely didnt go unnoticed. I'm glad he stirred the pot and put some pressure on the SEC officials.

Steve Shaw has a serious conflict of interest. Of course I would expect someone guilty af like him to be furious in a situation like this.

According to some members here the bias is just a figment of our imagination. All you have to do is watch the SEC games for the last decade to see the bias. Too many game changing calls and no calls for a certain team. The horse is out of the barn for the SEC office now. This is a lot bigger than just the Devin White phantom penalty. The media is upset because the integrity of the game is compromised.
