I think we do hold up much better against MSU and Auburn if we played them again. I think we could win although we wouldn't be favored. We are getting better every week as things start to gel. Improved OL play, emergence of Beckwith, and more consistent QB play are the keys in my opinion among other things such as Jamal Adams making plays and LF better understanding how to play.

Miles was criticized after media days for describing this team with one word..."unknown". This answer was pointed to as an example of Miles not understanding his team, not a good evaluator, and being ignorant. In retrospect, this may have been the most honest, accurate answer you will ever hear from Miles when assessing his team. Usually all we get are Milesisms. He knew he had talent, but it was unproven. We had too much youth at key positions (WR, QB, DL). On top of that, we hired a new OL coach.

There is only so much a coach can control in the development of players. Somtimes, things take time to come together and you have to work through and live with some failures. I have confidence in Miles and staff to get us back to championship form. This is fun to watch!

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that if somebody doesn't start then they're not on the team. Thanks for clarifying.

Completely agree.

I'm not just a huge Brando fan (not a basher either), but I did hear him say something one time that I thought was spot on. It was something along the lines of "every year, each college team plays in a game, the result of which determines the outcome of at least 1 more game, and maybe even 2 or 3 more games." Yes, it's a long way to say momentum matters, but it's still a salient point.

Our game like that was obviously Florida. Lose that game, and WE. ARE. DONE. Instead, we win a game we likely should have lost, have confidence going forward, cruise through Ky, then get a red hot Ole Miss team at night, at home, win there, BOOM. We no longer suck. The back end of the season matters. A break here, and bounce there, and BOOM. We actually could go to Atlanta.

Same players? For the most part. Same team? No. That defense I saw play against a VERY GOOD Ole Miss team last Saturday was absolutely stellar. The defenses fielded against State and Auburn were not.

To lose the turnover battle the way we did, and then, on top of that, the MISSED turnovers......jeez....for those to things to happen/not happen, and yet, LSU still wins, speaks volumes, IMO, on just how dominant LSU was in the trenches.

Regardless of what happens the rest of the year, that three week run of Florida, Ky, and Ole Miss will, IMO, be looked back on as that time when some of LSU's best teams ever "came together". Y'all, if this team wins out - yes, I understand that's closer to impossible than likely - but it's also much closer to likely than it was right after Auburn and State - if this team wins out, LSU likely heads into next year ranked in the top 3, and there's "more on the way" in terms of talent AND maturity. As good as things have been in the Saban/Miles era, I REALLY DO BELIEVE that we are witnessing the birth of the greatest run in LSU football history. This coaching staff is "doing what they are doing" with an extremely young group. Several of these guys WERE PLAYING HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL THIS TIME LAST YEAR. As these guys mature, their teams should be extremely memorable.

Plus while our players (specially the lines) are playing much better a lot of the success is from the coaches changing things up... but unfortunately the main problem there is very stubborn and likely to revert back to old ways at any time.

So the success is from changes the coaches made, but their stubbornness is going to cause them to undo the changes and go back to the less effective lineups that were in earlier in the year?

Oh thanks I didn't know that games could become more "down to the wire" than others.

Not so much lineups but substitutions, bad game flow, etc. If the coaches revert to running LF7 for 2 plays, then put Magee in for 3rd down passing, then put Hilliard in for 1 or 2, etc we will see a drop-off. The same thing if we go back to sending in plays with 10 seconds on the clock. This was also the first game I remember seeing clear use of more complicated blocking schemes. If we go back to trying to outmuscle everyone we will see more drop-offs. All of that can add up.

Logically it doesn't make sense, the computers have us in the top 10. Getting blown out by Auburn is probably a big part of it, along with the committee maybe just not caring after #10 or so.

that lost to Auburn and State is ignorant. Yes, we still have our question marks and areas to improve, but no one can tell me that it would be the same arse whippin if we were to play State later in the year. Whole different team, expect good things.

I think we would lose again to big of those teams if we played right now.

Yeah. Plus Harris was throwing 103 mph fast balls 5 feet over the receivers heads most of the game.

Go back through the drive charts over the past 2 games and this is exactly what you will see. It's been effective largely because the match-ups have been favorable for that style of game and the maturation of the o-line. There is more variety in blocking schemes because this o-line has been together for 5 games now and the staff is able to throw more at them.

Yes, I agree this team is growing/improving before us although some O issues to improve as CLM stated last night; it seams as after the UF receivers drop ball at end of UF game some breaks have started going our way and changed the season!

Against Ole Miss it was clearly LF7 for stretches and Magee for stretches. In the 2nd half Williams was in for like one play and then Hilliard came in late. Similar but less obvious in the previous 2 games. All of the games before that the players were coming in and out of the game nearly every down.

I think we are improved but UF, UK, and Ole Miss aren't the same offenses that MSU & Auburn were.

Really? Because I thought I just saw UK exploit MSU's defense for a lot of yards and points. Maybe it was a dream.

Ok Ok you win...that offense is as good as Auburn and State

What part of teams don't get up for playing in Lexington did you not understand exactly? does 2007 ring a bell? Hell just look at all the times we have struggled at kentucky. Do you really think State brought their best effort to Lexington? Teams do not get up for every opponent.

My point is don't pretend that this so-called monstrous defense didn't get torched by UK which IMO has a good offense that appeared to be better than the credit you are giving them.

BTW, no it's not better but it is good. Robinson, Marshall and others win the effort plays because they choose to not be tackled.

I never thought state had a monstrous defense. The combination of ineffective qb play and oline not playing like they are now killed us...not to mention the middle of our defense not doing anything.

I think if we played both of them again we would win one of the games. We are definitely better but I still have concerns if our defense can stop bama and ark running games.

I understand your concerns but our men are winning the effort plays more consistently. If they continue to do so, the Bama game will be equally as entertaining win, lose, or draw.
