Everyone keeps saying Venables will have to blitz him and not drop 7 into coverage as a few other teams have tried, but I'm pretty certain Burrow has lit it up against the blitz this year too.

That is advanced metric type stuff. And I am not sure anyone lists those publicly paid or otherwise.

I know PFF keeps track of all of those type things for its draft section, but I have not seen any options for us to view it even if you are willing to pay the 35$ a month for content.

When pressured, Burrow still completes 73.9 percent of his passes, a clip 9.5 percentage points better than any other player in the country and the top mark produced by any QB since at least 2011

On dropbacks in which Burrow has been pressured this season, he has completed 73.9 percent of his passes (No. 1 in FBS) for 1,556 yards (No. 1) and 19 touchdowns (No. 1) with just two interceptions, per Sports Info Solutions (Tweet for Jan. 4th)

At one point in the season it was like 74%. I believe I saw that around the bama game. Probably still close.

Here is a fun one -

LINK

quote:

2019 LSU’s EPA per passing attempt with Joe Burrow at QB...

No pressure (340 attempts): 0.27 EPA/Att
w/ pressure (138 attempts): 0.31 EPA/Att

quote:

For comparison, in 2019...

(No pressure EPA, w/ pressure EPA)
Tua: 0.32, 0.13
Jalen Hurts: 0.32, 0.14
Trevor Lawrence: 0.18, 0.11

EPA = expected points added ... basically Joe when pressured has been almost twice as productive as Lawrence with a clean pocket. Insane.

Here are some other fun ones from Cody

LINK

quote:

Joe Burrow under pressure:

64-91
70.3%*
77.6% adjusted completions*
1,095 yards*
14 TDs*
1 INT
145.8 NFL Rating*

* - leads nation

(He’s more than 30 points ahead of 2nd place in NFL Rating and well ahead of any quarterback PFF has in its historical database)

Article in the link above says 73.9 completion percentage against pressure, not sure about blitz tho. I'd asume pretty close to the same. I don't think its dropped into the 60s, but i could be wrong.

Venables is going to attack the weak point, our tackles. Burrow likes to go left on those short outs to CEH or Moss when he faces a blitz. I would assume they bring a blitz from the left side and stick a LB or safety in the flat behind it to stop the short out route.

This game is where Brady/E will have to earn their money. A lot of adjusting will be required. Venables makes great in game adjustments.

Burrow will throw straight at the blitz. He will make the right pre snap and post snap reads and adjust accordingly. You go to the LOS with 2 plays and you let Burrow make the decisions because you trust him. Even when the plays break down, Burrow has this amazing ability to extend the play.

Under pressure and throwing to an outlet (behind line OS to 10 yards Burrow is 79.37%. That leads all SEC QBs with 20 or more attempts under pressure (Burrow has 63 attempts under pressure)

Why am i not worried about Venables and the blitz?

Jorge Munoz.

Rabalais article

quote:

Munoz helps Burrow snip through those wires and remain prolific game after game.

“He’s meant so much to me,” Burrow said. “He helps me get those third-down blitzes picked up every week. So many teams have super-exotic packages, and he narrows it down to one, two, three things that my eyes have to look at so I can get these blitzes picked up. That’s a big reason why we’re one of the top third-down teams in the country.”

How about Joe under pressure on passes over 20 yards (in the air)? QBs with 5 or more attempts (Joe has 14)

Burrow leads the SEC with a 71.43% completion rate. And 5 TDs on the 10 completions.

Cullota said on the radio this morning that he is at an 80% completion percentage under a blitz.
