We need everyone healthy for this last push before regionals.

Smith - Will he play again this year? I'm leaning to no.
Storz - How did he feel after his last outing?
Labas - Sore elbow after last outing doesn’t sound good.

This team can not stay healthy.

We will probably get more info tonight that will completely contradict everything that follows this sentence:

quote:

Smith - Will he play again this year? I'm leaning to no.

They've continued to say there is nothing structurally wrong, that now it's the muscles. That gives me some hope that he'll play again, but I don't think there is any new info.

quote:

Storz - How did he feel after his last outing?

Tweeked something the day after he last pitched. They are being extremely cautious with him, so it wouldn't surprise me if the next setback means he's shutdown for the year. I think they're still trying to get him ready for another outing though.

quote:

Labas - Sore elbow after last outing doesn’t sound good.

I missed the news that it was his elbow. Elbows and forearms are never good news. Hopefully we can dodge a bullet here.

ETA: I see that Russian corrected Labas' status. Shoulder is less worrisome than elbow, IMO.

You didn't miss it, Project. Here is what Luke Johnson wrote last Saturday:
quote:

LSU coach Paul Mainieri said late Friday that his expected starting pitcher for Sunday's game, freshman right-hander AJ Labas, would not be able to go because of a sore shoulder.

Wish I did. We desperately need Smith and Labas back. That's a fact. Both times Storz has pitched, he had issues/pain the next day or 2, so I'm not feeling too optimistic there.

I can't remember the last time I saw this many injuries hit a team the way this one has.

PM gave an update in last few minutes of his show last night. Nothing new (which is bad news) on Smith and Storz. Both are out this weekend (and likely for year).

Labas is a shoulder and he hopes he feels good enough to possibly throw on Saturday at Auburn.

By the way, the team is busing to Auburn and will stay in Alabama through the tourney.

Also, if you've looked at weather, rain is very likely in Auburn on Friday and Saturday. Auburn Weather Forecast The conference wants all games completed this weekend, so teams will play Sunday if needed to get all three games in. This further complicates pitching issues if LSU plays into Sunday and has to turn around and start a tournament two days later.

Nick Storz is shut down for the season.

Some news from a pregame chat with Paul Mainieri: Nick Storz has been shut down for the season. Threw three innings this year while dealing with a shoulder injury that would not get better.

Me neither. Honestly, since the Skip ere commenced, I don't ever recall a team having to deal with this many injuries.

Think about this, of the projected starters at the beginning of the year, only Dups, Beau, and Slaughter haven't missed time due to injury (someone correct me if I'm wrong here).

So, now all of a sudden, the conference is giving permission to teams to have a 4th day to play? I can never recall that happening

It’s a new rule this year. But only for the final weekend.

Storz being done isn't super surprising; hopefully Smith will be able to play again, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm assuming he's played too much to qualify for a medical redshirt (not that it would likely matter anyway).

Labas being able to pitch Saturday would make me feel much better about our chances both this weekend and beyond but being that he's coming off (another) injury there's no guarantee he'll be on top of his game. Still he's a good arm that can pitch a lot of innings which we will need in abundance over the next few weeks. Hopefully Hess and hilliard can rebound and give us some good outings too.

They needed to shut Storz down, no need to risk it at this point.

Do you think someone told Labas what works on a sore shoulder?
