There should have been a plan in place to protect and designate a clear path for the staff and equipment to the tunnel.

There was a plan and it worked well, they Surrounded equipment and surrounded all the coaches and the players and escorted them to tunnel. He probably just stayed back with equipment or something then went out on his own without an escort.
