I absolutely listen to his show. He’s the best on the air

Agree. Players had option to opt out before season began. Once it began, it is quitting on the team.

That sounds all fine and dandy til the boosters get involved. "hey kid, come to Bama and I'll pay you $50,000 to give a shoutout to my car dealership every year." It might not start with that but it's going to come to it down the line if that gets approved.

Make them pay remainder of scholarship. That would stop them really quick

Any school that sues a former athlete to recover scholarship money is gonna suffer major recruiting backlash.

I always wonder how other athletes in non revenue generating sports or not high profile players would react to this. I’d expect most understand it, but I’d imagine there would be some jealousy if your classmates/teammates are making a lot of money and you aren’t.

No one is saying that a Men's Tennis player of a women's dive team player can't do the same. They just wont have the recognition of a Football or Basketball player.

plus whatever the school gives them.

The school isn't going to be giving them anything more than they already get now?

Does a player forfeit his scholarship if he opts out?

How do you keep payoffs from boosters from occurring? Or do we just accept that the richest schools will dominate the scene over and over?

I think opting out is part of where we're at as a society. They are adults and if they can't learn the value of sticking around, then they should be allowed to leave.

There are coaches out there who can keep a team together. WE need one of those.

How would this prevent opt outs?

Chase already has tons of followers

Marshall wouldn’t have gained any in the next 3 weeks

You don’t. These boosters pay big bucks for a pointless “shoutout” since it won’t be regulated. Teams recruit based on how much their players make advertising on social media.

I'll bite. Was Stingley a quitter when he decommitted from LSU as a recruit? How about Korey Foreman? Is he a quitter for decommiting from Clemson? Should we not continue to recruit him since he's a quitter? All the kids we "flip" are quitters also correct? Kids decommiting willingly is much more common than schools pushing them out. Sure are a lot of quitters in college football. But I guess in this new era of virtue signaling the kids are immune to criticism and just victims of a rigged system.

When agents tell kids they will start floating them cash on Dec 1, you get players like Marshall opting out.

I've been saying this since the Leonard Fournette days back when it was "sitting out". Let a guy sell merch(on a contract with LSU), endorsements on social media/TV/etc, let Canes have Brennan's face on the Billboards.

If guys are making $ by being visible then they will want to play until they can jump to the NFL. It won't stop all opt outs but it will help.

Just like LSU quit on the defensive tackle who had been committed to them for over a year now we just “lost a commitment from” because he was told to “look elsewhere”.

Funny, I don’t see any of you trying to sling your “insults” at LSU for “opting out” of the scholarship offers to these committed players.

This isn't a popular opinion but I agree. If the schools can treat players like employee's then the players can treat the school as an employer. If the employee quits, then they obviously lose access to the school, training, etc. but if that's what they choose then so be it.

This is a far from perfect system, but let's quit acting like these kids are injuring LSU in any way.

I always think back to the Randy Edsell situation at UConn.

quote:

After a year of being away from college football, Edsall would return to Connecticut where he had previously been the head coach for 12 years.[6] During his first month back, Edsall created a media backlash by withdrawing a scholarship from linebacker Ryan Dickens, two weeks before signing day, who had verbally committed to Connecticut under fired head coach Bob Diaco. Dickens later ended up at Lafayette, a lower-level FCS school, adding to more questions regarding some of Diaco's recruiting and the need for change that brought back Edsall.

So if Edsell can come in as a new CEO and withdraw an offer, a kid can change employers.

Football at schools like LSU is a business. The players have every right to treat themselves as valuable commodities.

Don't kids "commit" and then at signing day end up signing elsewhere?

It happens both ways.

Not sure what the solution is though.
