Can we run some pistol or some other sets to be more creative? Maybe two backs or a TE in the backfield? I don't know , but something other than dive and hurry up dive

Well, we are not running dives.

Sure they can get more creative. Example: They could pull linemen from one side and sweep the other way, pitching to the RB.

The problem with all of this is that in today’s game you have to score most of your possessions, and a failed run play on first down - particularly if it loses yardage - can kill a drive.

Mix up the downs instead of running on first every time

They actually did some of that last week. Example - an outside toss play where they pulled Campbell. Gotta execute some of that stuff better. I’d like to see some pistol.

Kelly gave a breakdown of some of the different plays/ looks they ran in his press conference early in the week when asked about trying something different in the run game. He was a bitch about it when answering though.

They have plenty of diversity. Just figure out the best plays to run and tell Nuss to PULL THE frickING BALL 5 times a game.

This. We have now run that hurry up dive on every 3rd and short for almost a decade. Every person on both sides of the ball and all 100,000 in attendance know exactly what's going to happen next. A tackle behind the line of scrimmage.

In a time where each team has dozens of analysts and analytic trackers, how has somebody not informed the staff that the success rate is about 1.3% on this play. Try something else. Try anything else. For the love of all that is good don't make LSU fans watch this one more time. Rant over.

So what I’m getting by this is Kelly hates being creative. And gets mad when someone calls him out on being more creative.

Getting more and more Les Miles 2.0 vibes from this man by the day.

With Ju Juan Johnson in the backfield now, if we don’t get creative with some kind of running back pass options , we’re just being stupid. The guy accounted for more than 14,000 yards in his high school career, that’s crazy.

Having Nuss keep the ball 1-2 times when the DE’s crash down would do wonders for the run game. Especially when they go hurry up on 3rd and 1.

Turn on the Texas game and watch their running game. The creativity isn't just in the play design, it's in the timing of each call.

Yep, Michigan substitutes DTs to keep fresh and Sark immediately runs right at their backups. Michigan DL got blown off the ball. 1st down.

Absolutely. I’m watching the Michigan-Texas game and Memphis play Troy. Michigan, Texas and Memphis all run a ton out of the shotgun, but they attack off tackle and at the edge, pull, disguise and just all have a much wider variety of run plays beyond inside zone.

Kelly talked all offseason about more variety in the run game, running outside more and pulling linemen to create advantages. I only saw this successfully run once last weekend on Emery’s big play. That was an off tackle designed run with someone pulling and making a key block. But we still saw a lot less of this than the basic zone.

Tonight will tell us something. Without the pressure of being away from home against a tough opponent, we will see if all the talk was real. If the offensive staff is going to really roll out more run looks, they will want to run them live against an opponent they can dominate.

We ran pistol last week and yes the more creative running plays are going to be out of pistol or under center. It increases the amount of area the defense needs to account for because every area is open to attack.
