It's called the wedge principle. No matter what stupid act someone commits to get themselves on the bottom of the shite list, it won't be long before before some fool comes in and wedges himself in at the bottom.
Dont worry between Updyke, those treating Updyke like a hero, and Teabag... you guys are gaining some seperation.

Seriously, I'm not trying to come off as Billy Bad arse, or some heroic bullshite. Hell, I'm not that tough, but I do believe if we as a society were known to not tolerate shite like that and would more than likely step in and take care of the situation, that t-bagger would more than likely never have done that because he knew there was a cause and effect coming his way if he did. He didn't fear that though. That's why I am in favor of people standing up against that and taking charge. Society in general would be much better served than depending upon someone with a badge to be at the right place at the right time which we KNOW damn well they rarely if ever are around when you need them.
I agree with the sentiment, but if you want to interject yourself into a crowd of 20 drunks that may not even know where they are, be my guest. Apparently the cops were right outside though. That would have been the prudent thing to do IMHO.

No ofcourse, you should stand and cheer and egg him on.

Just how is Alabama protecting him? I thought there was a UA official who was investigating everyone in the crowd and talking about kicking them out of school. Do you mean his buddies not ratting him out? Isn't that like JJ taking a hit because he didn't want to rat out the real "kicker?"
I don't mean UA is protecting him; don't know their role at all other than they released a statement. I mean the fanbase in general. Like other posters said, the OT or others woudl have outed this guy by now because he'd be a disgrace. As I said, his presumed accomplises are already known. Connect the dots.

I also don't think a Harvey Updyke would become a beloved icon either, as he appears to be.
horseshite.
So Updyke is a beloved icon? Nice. It does appear that way. I guss I'll never know how LSU will react to someone if they did something similar becasue it seems there is only one fanbase in a America who would stoop to that level of destroying landmarks.

That wasn't the case here. This was inside a fast food joint. I'm sure everybody in there was loaded, but it's not like it was in the middle of Bourbon Street.

I'm not signing up for that board but I'll take you word for. Good to see not every one in the UA fanbase is okay with homosexual sexual assault.
I guess that's a plus? Congrats.

If the cops were truly right outside as you say, and people were aware of it, does that not make this incident and those complicit in allowing it to go on even worse still?
Yes, if I had seen cops outside I would have gotten them the second the first guy threatened to t-bag him, or maybe when people first started jacking with him and I saw that.
However, from the video evidence, not one of them seemed the least bit concerned in stopping anything. They were having a ball (pun intended), which begs the question yet again, what is wrong with these people today? There's clearly a fundamental problem with their conscience of what is right and what is wrong as human beings. But then I have to imagine that somewhere in those messed up brains of theirs where college football trumps everything, if you're wearing the wrong colors then the rules are not in play. THAT arlo, is where people have taken sports and the importance of it in their lives to a ridiculous extreme. The drunken state that they may or may not be in just brings that out in them.

It has nothing to do with bravado, and everything to do with being a grown up. The victim is getting sexually assaulted. I, as a bystander, am walking by and witness a sexual assault taking place, and am a grown up human being. It is my duty, regardless of what color a person is wearing, to step in and break up what I know is filth and an assault on another human being wearing the other color. Truth is, we are talking about a game with teenagers running around on grass playing keep away with a funny shaped ball made of pig skin, and a bunch of people rooting for their favorite teenagers to come out victorious. THAT'S IT IN A NUTSHELL. The bigger issue here is our conduct. That's what we as fans CAN control, not which group of teenagers come out victorious, but our own actions or non actions. I see stuff like this as nothing more than a break down in society, and for people regardless of the color they sport to do nothing to break it up but rather sit there and laugh at it demonstrates just how screwed up much of our society has become.
This is pretty much it.
We have a duty to mankind to not act like this regardless of circumstances and to correct those that act like this regardless of circumstances.

Sexual Battery. Nice. Halfway there to a Hate Crime.
2006 Louisiana Laws - RS 14:107.2 — Hate crimes

Yes. Unfortunately Bourbon St has the stigma of being a place where people think flashing their tits and genitalia is no big deal. The teabagger might have just seen something similar a few doors down. That doesn't excuse his behavior.

I've done the same myself before in the past.

Preaching to the choir brother. That type of crap wouldn't fly around here.

Like the poor, the crazies and psychos will always be with us. I'm a Bama fan, but I root for all SEC teams. Some just take it over the top.
