Week 6 is a bye week. So, hopefully back for Bama on Nov 7th. Chance that he makes it earlier.

Right. Which brings up something nobody has mentioned, but I think is a real possibility. It depends on what our record is. I think the Bama game is the absolute earliest. Even if he “could” come back before that, I think both sides are going to be very conservative with him. Him and his family AND LSU. As much as Lane wants him back, I think he truly cares about him and his future. Even if he doesn’t (he does), he’s got to at least pretend to for future recruiting.

Which brings me back to the possibility I alluded to based on our record. If we still only have 1 or 2 losses, with everything still in front of us, come November and he’s good to go, I think he will do everything he can to be ready for Bama. But if for whatever reason the rails come off a bit and we’ve got 3 losses going into November, I don’t think he plays again for LSU. And I think Lane would be fine with it, if not recommends it. Sometimes you have to protect the player from himself. He’s got too much money waiting for him in the NFL to come back for a few games that would have no championship impact. Too much risk with very little reward.

And I’d be fine with it, and so should everyone else. And I don’t think it would be any sort of indictment on his character—I’m sure he wants to get back as soon as possible. But the adults around him may convince him to make the best long-term decision for himself.

Now again, if we’re still sitting here with only 1 loss—or even 2–and he’s healthy and not at risk of re-injury, I think he absolutely comes back for a potential playoff run. I’m just tempering my expectations on a speedy return.

I just don’t see it. We are going to have to learn how to win football games without
Trey-Dez Green. If we do and run off 5-straight, and are 7-1 heading into Auburn, I just can’t see them not giving him an extra 2 weeks with the bye before Bama. A 7-1 LSU team should be good enough to win an 11 am game on the Plains. We WILL need a fully healthy Trey for the killer stretch of Bama, Texas, and at Tennessee.

And I would go ahead and prepare myself for Lane to not address his return in the slightest except to deflect it. We won’t know he’s playing until the very last second Lane has to disclose it whatever week it is.
