Any reason our baserunners put gloves on while on base?

Title says it all, why do our base runners put on batting gloves/switch gloves once they reach base?

Don't want to mess up batting gloves when sliding or diving. Also don't want hands scratched up.

That isn't sand they are sliding on. That stuff will tear your hands up.

Some guys wear them so once they steal a base they can take the glove off and nail it to a wall. A wall of achievement if you will. Say hey.

It's to protect their hands/wrists, but I agree it's pretty silly and is basically pointless

Most baserunners hold their gloves in their hands when base running. It helps keep your hands up and avoiding them getting jammed (fingers) when sliding. Before batting gloves baserunners were instructed to hold dirt in their hands

Basically, infield dirt is some rough shite and will chew up your palms on a slide.
