The stronger the SEC looks overall (esp against other P5s) the better a successful SEC Team that wins their Division &/or Conference will appear!

In other words you are rooting for Alabama so they can claim the greatest season ever.

It benefits LSU to have all there opponents win all other games except against LSU. Helps with strength of schedule.

Bowl games have no impact on SOS

Hell no! I can’t stand when people say man you gotta pull for the SEC! If Bama keeps winning it only helps them in recruiting!

Patrick surtain chose to go to Alabama because "they win championships".

May he never win a national championship or super bowl in his life.

Champions win championships.

The SEC has never been a football backwater

You're preaching to the choir. But you're either too young, or don't remember what the media was like before college football was a prime time, big time business. Of course great SEC teams were recognized in the polls, but that doesn't mean the conference was treated equal to the B10 or P10.

Cable television was still emerging, there was no ESPN ('79) or ESPN2 ('93) much less the SECN, and college football was not the big business it is today. The only team that the media thought was worthy of a national audience was Notre Dame, so college football on TV consisted of the weekly Notre Dame game, plus a special telecast of a B10 or P10 game. The national media did not think there was a TV market for SEC football, so it was mostly ignored. The SEC was an afterthought in the national media discussion - treated like a red-headed step child.

Here's an example for you: In 1987 LSU went 10-1-1, while Ohio St. went 6-4-1. Four Ohio St. games were televised on broadcast television that year. Only one LSU game was broadcast: the game vs. Ohio St. (Yes, LSU also had ESPN and TBS games that year, but again cable TV in 1987 wasn't what it is today)

I’m rooting for everyone but Bama and A&M. Special thanks to Florida for embarrassing the brand. And Georgia is currently doing the same. Just more reasons why the East is a joke.

frick the sec. I’m an LSU fan not an sec fan. Rooting for the sec is some loser shite that middle/bottom feeder teams do to feel important. Big6 teams know. If you win the sec you’re in. 100% of the time.

Prior to the court CFA ruling in the mid 80s there was a limit on the number of times a team could be on TV so ND was not on TV more than the limit before then. It’s worth noting that they were generally pretty good and had a large national following including in heavily catholic areas like So La. Shocking I know that TV network would prefer a team that drew better ratings.

Also the SEC was a backwater until the 80s/90s it wasn’t even integrated until the early 70s and outside of Bama and UGA with Walker was not nearly as good as today.

A) What were the TV contracts for the SEC then B) TV schedules were less flexible then, they were basically set before the season C) TV broadcasts are not a meritocracy OSU always had a large following in 1987 not only was LSU not a national brand bowls didn’t want LSU because our fans didn’t travel

so wrong. Alabama was dominant in the 70s and Florida in the 90s. Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee mixed in occasional years. The SEC has never been a football backwater, at least not for the past 70 years.

The only reason I'm here was to respond to the OP's question, "are you rooting for SEC teams" to which my simple response is: SEC pride mattered when the SEC was treated like a backwater, but now there is probably too much pro-SEC bias, so not any more. I have no desire to debate whether or not the SEC was in fact a backwater in the 70s (or any time for that matter), yet these are the responses this hellsite delivers. My fault for engaging a rantardian non-sequitur.

Never change Rant, never change.
