Maybe, but it's the white guy who is receiving 99% of the scorn.

You mean like this? Please pay attention to the 1:28 mark. Not just the pass but everything he does before he throws it.

Tell that to Jmarcus Russell. #1 overall draft pick and he was called "dumb" his entire career here.
Hate to continue this thread off point, but this stuff it just old.

I don't know how these kids do in class. JJ may not be nearly as intellectually gifted as JR. Yet do you hear anyone calling JJ "dumb" or a "dumb" player. Not so far. He seems to to have field presence. On the other hand, JL may do great in class, but do you hear football fans calling him smart. Nope. Has little to do with intellect; and it has nothing to do with race. Nothing. Nada.

Comments about "smart vs dumb" QB's are based on field command, knowledge of the offense, and good decision making. In part JR was a victim of circumstance. He got screwed in 2003 when he should have seen the field repeatedly. Because Saban was an idiot and chose to redshirt JR instead of running him 2nd string to Mauck, Russell was forced into SEC competition in '04 with little or no game experience. It cost him dearly. JR made stupid on field decisions throughout the year.

But he still struggled the following year. Jump forward to the Tennessee game in 05. End of the 1st half deep in UT territory, no time outs, plenty of time to take a couple of shots at the end zone then kick a FG. Instead JR runs down the sidelines, doesn't score AND STAYS IN BOUNDS. Sorry THAT IS STUPID. Then, near the end of the game deep in our territory, Fisher was in his f@#$*#@!! ball-control mode. The one thing we could not do was turn the ball over. What happened? JR tried to force a pass==>Interception==>Ballgame! Dumb!

Yes, JR wasn't the most focused athlete to ever play QB at LSU. However, compared to Jarrett Lee, most would consider Russell brilliant. So what's your point?

Regarding Flynn-Russell, Flynn consistently made better on field decisions. JR's size, physical skills, and upside blew Flynn out of the water. Especially for the NFL. Part of the closeness of competition between Russell and Flynn was poor offensive design. If you opt for a limited, run-oriented, short pass, Mauck-type, Saban-type offense as Fisher did through the UF game of 2006, it leaves a guy like Flynn as a very viable and competitive option to JR. You go to a pass-first, four or five WR pro-style attack as we did vs ND, and JR is hands down the best choice.

It's just that the majority of people on here want so bad to have a white qb. They will deny that, but its true.

This may be true of some fans, but not for most.

People that bring race into these kind of discussions are really saying "I don't have anything to contribute here."

While I don't necessarily disagree with you, Flynn was a senior when he made those decisions. Jamarcus was a sophomore when he made the ones you refer to. There is a difference. And Jamarcus was asked to do a whole lot more than Flynn in the passing game.

Also, a lot of people thought that because Jamarcus made those "stupid" decisions as a sophomore in '05, that he was destined to do it in '06 and '07 as well. They did not allow for the possibility that he could get better. And I came to his defense almost exactly like I am doing Jarrett Lee in that respect.

Flynn decided to throw the ball into the chest of defenders an awful lot then. Luckily he probably led the NCAA in potential INTs dropped his senior year.

I think he is right, to a degree. JR made less mistakes but made worse decisions. JR had better natural accuracy at all distances than Flynn did, so it was actually harder for him to make more mistakes than Flynn.

Still, results matter more than all that, and JR had less negative results in 2006 than Flynn had in 2007.

Oh ... is that why JR comleted more of his passes for a much higher YPA?
