Miles has been burned by being " forced" to play QBs before they were ready. He would prefer to dominate with the run, but this game should allow him to trust Jennings more. I think our QBs will flourish with experience.

I think AJ settled in nicely toward the end. Too early to know whether he is clutch, but he did not let himself get down when to do so would have been easy.

Considering the pressure games he's been in he's done very well. People have unreal expectations of how new players at this level are supposed to perform.

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but he's had two times when he's needed to be 'clutch':

Early 3rd down throw vs Arkansas to get us out of deep in our own territory

and

Third and 21 throw to Diarse that had me going "Yes FG!, Yes First down! TOUCHDOWN!!!"

FWIW, that's 2 for 2. Not a big enough sample, but it sure has started off right.

Damn...tough situations for an new starting QB to be thrown into. He is probably ecstatic about getting a cupcake at home this wknd where there is not quite as much pressure and he can work out some kinks. Excited about his potential

I discount the bowl game because I believe ( after screaming at the TV for 2.5 quarters) that the mission there was to put him in positions he was not used to; IE pocket passing down field. It gave them film to study and and work on during the spring and summer. Much improved in that area. Just my opinion.

Very solid post here with some great perspective.

The thing that had me most excited was AJs rapport with Dural. Clearly they are on the same page, and given how good Dural appears to be, that bodes very well for AJ

EDIT: One other thing - he has yet to play in back to back weeks. Last game against Arkansas - 5 weeks - bowl game - 8 months - first game. Jennings seems to get better the more he is allowed to play. What will he be like in a few weeks after getting more actual reps?

This is the thing that you really nailed. A QBs rhythm is key, and he has great momentum to build off now. Should be a fun couple of weeks to see how he and the other young players find themselves.

2 come from behind victories in the clutch. In both situations, he took over the team and made great decisions.

This kid is clutch, guys. He might not have the strongest arm, but he seems to have intangibles of leadership and decision making that are huge. I am impressed.

All of your observations are valid. I have no problem with Jennings and support him 100%.

Miles and Cameron deserve credit for starting the right guy.

The preseason QB contest was IMHO just psychology. Miles needed AJ to work hard to improve and he needed BH to get game ready ASAP. He hung the carrot out there and both had to try as hard as possible to grab it but in the end I expected AJ to start and BH to enter game later.

I was most encouraged with the crossing pattern pass to Dural and the two timing passes to Diarse. Those were perfect throws with good timing and on target. We need more of these type throws. Hopefully the game slows down for him where the screen passes are easy and he doesn't panic like it looked like he did down on the goal line when the first option was covered.

I just liked the way he managed the game. Even when we couldn't to much in the first half, his demeanor looked positive, and never once did I see his head down. Plus, and its a big plus, he didn't turn the ball over. I'm excited.
