Mississippi State: Pro Style with college runs
I get the feeling that, if perfectly executed, our offense would be somewhere between these two... maybe leaning more towards the Bama RPO scheme. Hard to say with certainty though since we spent so much time in 7/8 man protection.
Then again, maybe that’s just what I want to see. I don’t think Burrow is ever going to look like Tua, but I think he’s perfect for the RPO with his ability to read defenses and his speed. He just needs to react quicker.
Bama’s OL play makes everything look so easy though. I feel like if we tried to mimic their pulling guard/tackle plays we would get destroyed. They have some studs up front.

We get rid of our running QB's cuz we don't want a running QB. Then we have our QB run on 3rd and 5. So, to answer the original question... IDK.

Joe Burrow was recruited as a dual threat out of high school.

The point of the thread is that we are a Jack of all trades and a master of none.
it was my concern all off season when O mentioned about 20 different offenses they wanted to emulate.

The 90's spread....but hey it worked for Spurrier, so why not for us???????

We are a confused offensive program. We have no real identity so we have a hard time recruiting specific offensive talents and can not develop them for shite.

We run the Les Miles air raid!

I would say its a pro style offense with tempo and RPOs mixed in.

A generation ago, college coaches put their best athletes on defense and tried to shut people down. In recent years, with a few exceptions such as LSU, colleges have put their best athletes on offense. The boosters like shootouts. Players like to perform in shootouts, which lead to YouTube interest. "Basketball on grass" is the order of the day in college football.

STEVE ENSMINGER Acceptance Speech: “I want to thank our leadership — President (F. King) Alexander and (athletic director) Joe Alleva for putting the trust in me to lead this team right here, OK. The last thing I’ll say is this: You never expect it. Hell, I’m 59 years old.
“I’ve spent my whole career thinking about this opportunity, OK. Playing quarterback right over across the street, right there in Tiger Stadium for Charlie Mac, uh, I tell you, it’s a … (sniffles) … (pauses for 10 seconds composing himself). I knew that was going to happen. But you know what, that’s why I chose this profession (voice cracks). I want to make a difference in young people’s lives. (sniffles).
You know, it’s kind of like riding a bike. Hell, you don’t forget how to be a quarterback. You don’t forget the three-step drop, the five-step drop. You don’t forget how to throw a damn out route or a curl route or anything else. You know what? Hey, that’s just part of being a quarterback, you know. And I look forward to showing these guys how to do it.
"I think we have to be a run-pass option team. I think we have to be a more fastball team. I think we have to go no huddle. That’s the direction we’re going. I still think there’s reasons to huddle, and then get out of the huddle and go fast again. We have to put the best talent on the field, and I think that will be three and four wide outs.”
"But we can be in three wides and everything else, and we can still run the football. You’ve got to be able to do it all with everything. In my opinion, you can be three-wide, but you better still be physical and run the football and play action off of it and still throw the ball deep. Every formation we get in, every personnel we get in, I plan on being able to do the RPOs. I plan on being able to throw the intermediate pass routes, to throw trick plays and everything else.
"It’s a fine line. You have to be able to do it all out of that personnel. Defenses are too good nowadays. So it doesn’t matter what personnel we’re in, we’re going to have to run the football. We’re going to throw the quick game. We’re going to do RPOs, and we’re going to throw the football over their head.”
How do you respond to criticism that 15 years in between play calling opportunities is too long? (The last time Ensminger called plays before he was interim coordinator at LSU in 2016 was in the 2003 season at Auburn when he was the quarterbacks coach.)...Answer: They will say you are not good enough, can't do it. bullshite. OK. I'll do it.

We run the same offense Pete Carroll ran at USC!

So a jack of all trades offense.

More a stream of consciousness thing going in, then the epiphany, after sleeping in the office and realizing you actually have the "Cole Tracy 3 Pt Offense".

Ensminger has the right vision: RPO, etc., requiring a DTQB. You cannot implement a set scheme without the personnel to match it. You have to adjust the Scheme to the Personnel.
ALA has had all new Coordinators for 3 yrs and it has not fazed them, so a Process and Culture is important...not just loading up your best players on DBU.
If Burrow had not been a RPO Dual-Threat QB the season would have been different. He was a key factor vs GA with 2 Rushing TDs added to Tracy's 5 FGS, and that TAMU game would not have turned to be so close and historic. He was the leading Rusher and scored 3 Rushing TDs and had 3 Passing TDs.
The OL problems have always been there, worse with Pro -Style QBs. SEC Smashmouth wears out the Big Guys and when their tank is empty they are done. Also, if you do not utilize Catapult-GPS to reduce the biggest cause of injury - over training - then the high injury rates of the past will continue.
Mett's career was limited because he was an immobile Pro-Style guy and the LSU Run-Blocking O-Line was bad at pass protection. Landry and Beckham said they just could not keep him upright. His last series vs ALA was 4 consecutive sacks with him crawling off the field with a blown ACL.
