Most of those years Miss St was Vandy type bad and the dogs turned the ball over a ton.

Yep. Prescott is about to graduate, and State will be shite again. Prayers sent.

Clapp and Diarse penalties were just obvious and not smart, they negated nice plays and put LSU in bad down and distance spots. Maybe Diarse's man makes the tackle, maybe he doesn't, at worse it is a nice gain.

Boutte grabbed a LB around the neck. If it is lower probably isn't called. The LB had no chance to get to Harris, but of course Boutte didn't know that and LSU scored anyway.

Hawkins penalty was a bit ticky tac, but he was out in the open and the call was understandable somewhat.

Big scheme of things: Let us hope State wins some west division showdowns and helps LSU out inadvertently of course.

Of the penalties in those clips, I thought the Hawkins and Clapp ones were the only ones that were close calls, and even they weren't really wrong calls by the officials. The catch that wasn't a catch was a bad call, IMO. The clip in your post (bad spot on first down) was a bad spot, but it probably didn't matter all that much. It was 1st and 10 when they ran that play, so if the spot had been done right, they would have had 2nd and 1 and probably still would have converted, although maybe some more time would have run off the clock. They still could have spiked it and only lost a few seconds, and would have had 3rd and 4th down to convert the 1 yard.

I don't think the officials did us any favors in the game, but I can't really say we got screwed, except maybe on the catch/no catch. But it was the first game and mistakes like that happen in the first game. Hopefully, we can clean up the penalties next week.

Long term, big picture, I'm not so sure. There are some inherent disadvantages to being in a small state with another SEC team as competition and Alabama, Auburn and LSU next door. At a minimum, to become a frequent contender in the SEC, State would have to basically kill off Ole Miss as a factor, which seems like it will be difficult at least for a while.

the 14 in a row years are over

Probably so. 14 wins in a row is very uncommon in an annual series, so I would not expect it to happen again any time soon.

That being said, LSU has the goods to win it all and I know we had our chance to win and didn't . Your dbs may give up some catches but no YAC, very talented. Beckwith stays healthy and you're in the final four IMO.

I hope you're right about that, and I do think we might have just won our 3rd or maybe 4th toughest SEC West game (Alabama, Ole Miss and maybe Texas A&M are the ones that I think should be tougher), and under circumstances that were unusually unfavorable to us with regard to the cancelled opener, hostile crowd, probably best QB we will face, etc.

Good luck to both teams as the season progresses.

Correct. This is why times are changing.

In spite of being surrounded by recruiting powerhouses, the volume of high school talent combined with the 85 scholarship limit will give Mississippi State all the opportunity they need to win. All Mullen has to do is have a staff that can recognize underrated 2 and 3 star HS players, just like Prescott. Look at Dantonio's situation at Michigan State and the players he recruits. Exactly the same.

Why Worry about these....LSU has Costly Penalties each and every game it is a bit of a Trademark of a Miles coached team.

Worry about the ones against Auburn...

the Hawkins holding is the only questionable one

But they are all sort of bullshite compared to the shite MSU was getting away with.

I really want to know what the Ricky Jefferson PF was all about. It came real quick after the tackle, normally they let them talk a little bit.

plus the chi dupre catch that was ruled incomplete..

Even the Moo-State fans sitting around us agreed it looked like a catch after seeing the replay. Hopefully those calls will even out for the Tigers in the coming games. The holding calls on the two scoring plays were legit but neither was necessary for the gains that were made. I look for the coaches to get that junk mitigated going forward.
