In 1982, LSU defeated Bear Bryant's Alabama team for their first victory against the Crimson Tide since 1970. After the season, The Bear retired.

The Tigers, however, were not the first team that year to beat the Tide. Earlier that year, the Tide lost to another team which snapped an 11 year slide vs Alabama.

That team: Tennessee.

the game before LSU beat Alabama, Ole Miss came to down, won the toss, fumbled the kickoff and Hillard scored on the first play. LSU won,45-8. LSU's defense held Ole Miss to - 50 (that's MINUS) yards rushing.

I was at that Ole Miss game. I had a bad feeling going in
to the game that we'd lose. It didn't take long to change my mind!

That was my favorite LSU game that I attended. Won 20-10 in Birmingham. Went to a bar in Tuscaloosa called Lee’s Tomb on Friday night, and had a blast. After we won, we went back there on Saturday night, and it was closed, along with all the other bars. So we partied in the street. I still remember an old purple and gold convertible Cadillac doing Starsky-and-Hutch’s up and down the street.

I was at that game in '82. Helluva road trip. Made it to Bama and back with "Bear Sucks" written on my car.

Was my freshman year at LSU and spent every single game in the student section, which was lit.

Gary James was supposed to be the stud freshman running back that year, way more hyped than Hilliard. But then Hilliard busted out. It was nice, though, subbing James in, because he was a completely different runner. He ran for the edges and if he made it outside, he was gone. Hilliard scatted between the tackles and was so difficult to tackle.

That Tulane lost pissed me off. I think there was a big fight on the field and in the stands that game? Or was it another one?

1982 at Bama. I was a student at LSU at the time. That was before all the games were on television. I watched that game on closed circuit television at the Superdome with about 40,000 people in there. It was wild. It was like being in the stadium. Dalton Hilliard ran wild that day.

on the field was 1984. The next year in the Superdome both sides were concerned and the players couldn't have displayed more sportsmanship. But in the stands was one of the biggest fights I've ever seen at a game. Gracious!
