LSU has an NFL secondary and a good, not great collegiate front 7.

LSU is hurting at DT, they have NFL OLB's masquerading as DE's, and LB's who aren't physical enough to stuff the run game of large OL's.

Look for LSU to dictate down and distance by stacking the line on 1st and second d down to let the secondary work on passing downs.

i think our secondary is elite and just hope the middle of the d will hold up. Im liking the play from the des so far and think bower will be a good compliment to rasco and have solid depth there. really it's about the dts. But we all knew this going in.

This. If they can keep teams in 3rd and long situations the secondary will eat. If not it's going to be a long season.

Until they made adjustments Wiscy run games gave them problems. It wasn't just Gordon.

Not saying they're not but also not for sure why so many are pimping them as being elite despite not having played anyone yet.

Let's put it this way, the biggest improvement is you don't see multiple DBs per play running up and down the field waving their hands overhead like "WTF am I supposed to be doing on this play" like last year. One of which was a sophomore who now wants to play like a NFL 1st rounder.

From what I see from whomever is manning the front 7 in a given series, and again the last two opponents have been physically overmatched, is improvement in scheme awareness and responsibilities. I do think the entire unit is much improved, the DB corps improvement is light years better. Maybe some of this stems from freshmen talent and older players recognize they better improve or they will be on the sidelines before long.

Just watch what this D does to Prescott. The dline is fast and deep. Kwon and Duke shut down anything going to the outside and D Thomas is a terror on blitzes. Beckwith is the key and he's getting better every game. This defense is nasty.

Seriously? Our starting DT's are good, not great, and depth there is very questionable. I hope Hunter really turns it up this year, but it remains to be seen... Look like Tarzan, play like Jane.

I think our DEs are very solid and we seem to be developing depth there. DTs are the concern for me, this will be a good test. LBs will be tested as well, I'm hoping we spy Dak with one. DBs are great and deep.

Look guys SHSU and ULM are not that good, but they are better than many cupcakes and shutouts are shutouts. I doubt MSUs OL and RBs is as good as Wisconsin's. No doubt their QB and WRs are better than Badgers.

Should be a good test for our D and I think they will play well...need to hold grinders to 17 or less points and we will be in good shape.

They definitely flipped a swtch during halftime of the Wisky game and haven't looked back since. If they can keep it going and I suspect that there will be a lapse or two down the road especially in SEC play. Will it cost the team a shot in the playoffs, time will tell..

IMO, the key is for our OFFENSE to get an early lead and force the opponent to rely on their passing game. If we can manage to force teams to throw, our secondary will dominate.

Our pass defense is steller. I think defending any sort of finesse run game is going to be good. What scares me is teams that can run the ball down your throat. We will have to load the box to stop it and that will open other opportunities.

Chavis will have a package for Miss State. I think the athletes are on board that can execute that plan. Contain and pressure Prescott. The Offensive game plan will be to pound, pound, pound their DL, and pull away in the 4th qtr.

Why do people keep saying this about Hunter? Is it because he's not getting 2 sacks a game? He's second in tackles on the team which tells me he's an every down DE and not just a pass rush specialist. There's nothing wrong with this.

I think the DB's are better this year, but not sold on the DT's or DE's or LB's for that matter. If they can shut down Moo St. then I may believe they are elite.

Sam Houston St lost to Colorado State Pueblo who is Division II. They were beating Sam Houston 41-0 before putting in the scrubs. ULM lost to Idaho by a bunch as well.

It's way too early for elite status. But the potential is certainly there.

All I can think back to is the first of the Wisconsin game when Melvin Gordon was healthy.

An elite player like that is going to get his yards against a good defense

Look at what McFadden did to every SEC defense he played when he was at Arky

Our interior DL is still a big concern (along with MLB) and will get a very big test this weekend.
