Even I didn't realize how bad LSU has been at getting a Freshman QB that can play..

2002 Class:
4* Lester Ricard - Never Played a down at LSU ended up with a decent career at Tulane

2003 Class:
4* JaMarcus Russell - Talented QB at LSU and first player selected in the draft
4* Matt Flynn - Talented QB led LSU to NC and had a good Pro career.

2004 Class:
None

2005 Class:
5* Ryan Perrilloux - Great potential but got kicked off team. One great performance but never did anything else as a QB

2006 Class:
None

2007 Class:
4* Jarrett Lee - Had to play as freshman end up his senior year starting most of the season did well.

2008 Class:
4* Jordan Jefferson - Great athlete and a good college career just not a great passer or decision maker.

2009 Class:
3* Chris Garrett - Never Played Transferred did nothing as a QB
5* Russell Shepard - Never Played QB except wildcat

2010 Class:
4* Zach Lee - Never made it to campus

2011 Class:
4* Jerrod Randall - Never played a down Transferred did nothing as a QB
4* Zach Mettenberger - Really good his senior year but was a transfer not a freshman
3* Stephen Rivers - Played some but not effective. Transferred did nothing as a QB

2012 Class:
3* Jeremy Liggins - Never made it to campus Transferred did nothing as a QB

2013 Class:
4* Hayden Rettig - No Chest never played a down. Transferred did nothing as a QB
4* Anthony Jennings - Started and played hard but very limited ability. Transferred did nothing as a QB

2014 Class:
4* Brandon Harris - Started but very inaccurate. Transferred started at UNC a few games was terrible.

2015 Class:
2* Justin McMillan - Signed after others turned down. Maybe this year?

2016 Class:
3* Lindsey Scott - Signed after others turned down. Never played a down. Transferred

2017 Class:
3* Lowell Narcisse - Maybe this year?
4* Myles Brennan - Maybe this year?

2018 Class:
None

So not only did LSU miss on getting QB's the ones they got didn't do anything at LSU or other schools they transferred to. (Jury still out on Scott)

And people didn’t want a proven QB guy like Jimbo as coach...

So all just duds ? Perhaps its not the lack of coaching/developing, just failed recruiting ?

The first time I thought it was an error, but then you kept doing it.

I want Jimbo, Herman.

People didn't agree when I was hoping Kliff would get fired so we could make a run at him for OC. I would actually prefer him as HC over O tbh. I feel like LSU has a much easier job attracting top defensive players and elite defensive coaches than guys on the offensive side of the ball.

Why did you start in 2009? Our QB woes started as soon as Matt Flynn lifted the Crystal Ball and as soon as Perriloux hit the road.

Hatch, Lee, and Jefferson should definitely belong on that list. 2008 was on of Miles' worst years all due to QB issues.

This is a 10+ year issue

"After others turned down"? He committed the summer before his senior year. LSU was planning to not take a QB that year. The kid was impressive at camp and earned on offer on the spot.

Some good QBs on that list. Its not about players. School has a bad rep in developing QBs.

This topic has been beat to death, but OP just did an amazing job of summarizing. So disappointing.

LSU is the equivalent of the Chargers of the late 1990s and early 2000s and Browns of the last 15 years. Really hard to understand.

Yeah, but, does playing against an elite defense in practice every day destroy a QB's confidence?

I mean, we are DBU. Maybe we'll just never be good at grooming or coaching a freshman QB because we're so good at defense.
