re: All this tinkering with line up is dumb. These players "will" start and play period.

how can anyone even question if he plays or not when he had a season like he did last year? He can do this again next season barring injuries etc. He starts and plays if he stays in line and progresses in the fall.
If he stays, is healthy, and has a good fall...he has a spot. In other words, he's pretty close, like I said. All of those things have to happen, though. It is also possible that 1 or a few of those things don't happen, and you have other really good players that force him into a platoon role. I think Jay has every intention of having a spot for Dugas to play every day, but Jay also has every intention of getting the best 9 on the field...whether that is transfers, freshmen, or not.

I can agree with your take but if lsu is expected to raise the bar as cjj is already doing with tanks, some of the pitchers coming in etc., imo A.M. has to be better hitting wise. I mean batting 180 just doesn't cut it. To be elite, why settle for the Mendoza line when you can clearly bring in better. Is it safe to say lsu is tired of having someone bat who we have no faith in? Just saying.
Because if he plays, LSU wins 5-6 more games that passed balls from both other guys let through. Passed balls and lack of blocking ability was evident.
Secondly, name me one better defensive catcher in the SEC. Milazzo May be the best defensive catcher in the country and people like y’all only want offense. If he hits around .200, he will be more important than a .250 guy that can’t put fear in the opposing base runners.

He hit a lot of home runs against below par pitching staffs, and only hit for about .a 255 batting average.
What were his SEC + postseason numbers? Likely around .220 with 5 home runs.
I dont know the answer to this specifically. But he hit .196 with 9 homers in sec play including the sec tourney.
So no, i think the OP is wrong. Jobert isnt guaranteed a spot

Isn't Kling a day 1 starter as well?
Posted on 6/25/22 at 5:17 pm to Honkus
Depends who else is in the outfield. I try not to pencil in freshmen as starters. Rarely happens.

Jobert has been told this already. Not saying he wouldn't come back to grind, maybe even find his way somewhere in the lineup, but he'll have to weigh his options one the draft comes and goes.

Agreed. Id welcome him back for depth obviously.

Kling is a Crews type talent, so I could see it...but it's really too early to tell that. Crews was everything and more right away. Kling may be, or he may take some time...Pearson took some time, got an opening, then took off.

I just pulled some quick stats for Jorbert SEC plus Postseason
AB 114
Hits 21
HR 10
RBI 28
Walks 12
Strike outs 34
BA .185
I don't think he has a guaranteed spot at all* and will probably jump if he gets drafted.

Beloso and Jobert are guys that you really want around. They've seen it and tasted it, have some skins on the wall, mature...but they're not guys you can really guarantee anything with now that the portal is an option and you can maybe sway some draft risks your way with NIL, a new pitch from a new coach, etc. Then you have the roster limit balancing act, both looking at the now and the future.

Dugas sec 2021(I went ahead and did the math)
.278 33rbi 13hr
Just saying but I'd hardly call
Moo st
Tenn
Vandy
1st 3 sec series then played a good
Kentucky team
Ole miss
Arkie
Auburn
I'd say decent teams...
D will start next year and bat around 300, hit 40 rbis and 15 plus bombs in conference if healthy. Jmo

Alex was batting average was at 227 this season with limited playing time. He was showing improvement under new coaching and could continue to improve. 250 with his defense would be superb.

I would be absolutely ecstatic with any catcher of Milazzo’s defensive ability hitting .225+ with this lineup around him.
.300 hitters with good defensive skills behind the dish don’t grow on trees.

Yeah, I guess you're right.

Carter Young hits left and right. Zane Denton hits left. Pineda hits left. Romero hits left. Brady Neal hits left. Ruddell and Mic Paul hit left. We aren’t dialing in on LH bats.

Yet lsu almost always seems to have great 2 way catchers.
Just because PM poorly recruited the position at the end of his tenure, making milazzo the only one that can cleanly catch a pitch, does not make him an lsu caliber catcher. They direly need to keep searching for an upgrade

He was 5-22 and one of his hits should have been ruled an error. So, .180ish?
Milazzo in 2021 was the worst hitting regular that LSU has had in 30 years
