All signs point to....Vitello

56If you believe the reports about McDonnel and Godwin, along with Bianco taking his name out of the hat and the AD plane heading to Omaha, Vitello is the only one left.
McDonnel or Godwin would've been announced by now as neither is playing ball anymore. I just don't see Corbin coming down, he's built that Vandy program from the ground up and I'd imagine he takes a lot of pride in that. That leaves Vitello.
Honestly, he's not my first choice. But he is a very capable coach with a bit of swagger that high school players are attracted to. Given LSU's resources and recruiting pool, this dude has a massively high ceiling.
Edit: And now O'Connor is out....

Of the two, Johnson would be more likely. I think it'd be tough to pull O'Connor from Virginia for the same reasons it'd be tough to pull Corbin. He's built that Virginia program.

It would be FAR easier to pull O'Connor.
Doesn't have the built in advantages, is in a weaker conference, and hasn't had the same recent success as Corbin.
I don't want O'Connor though.

Exactly this. The BR sports media and the rant are confused by what a competent AD doing a coaching search looks like so they don’t know how to act and are jumping on every rumor like it’s the gospel because previously it was.

Meh, I don't think this necessarily means its Vitello. Just means there is a good chance our next coach is currently coaching in Omaha. It could be Johnson, O'Connor, Vitello, or Corbin.

Anyone thinks it’s very strange to be courting a coach and/or agent possibly finalizing a contract while the head coach is coaching his other team in the CWS?

Its more like a nice neutral site Woody can meet with a coach or agent without a bunch of people knowing about it. I doubt many guys coaching a team in the world series is going to make time to fish around with job offers in the middle of it. At least not a guy i would want. Now maybe an agent could do it though.
