playing Delta St competition wise, but since they're D2, they wouldn't drag down our RPI at all.

I'm not sure how much it factors in, but scheduling a non-D1 opponent does adversely affect your RPI.

Actually, I think there was a comma there and I missed it. You had it right.

Then the RPI must be different for basketball and baseball. I recently read an article about how the Mountain West stacked the RPI in their favor because a lot of their schools played non-D1 opponents that had no bearing at all on their RPI.

The only way I could see it negatively affecting the RPI is by not having a full 56 games count.

They're 6-5 in SWAC play. So, they're 0-19 outside their league.

Pretty sure RPI only counts your games against Division I competition. If you look at the RPI last year it lists us with one less win because we had a game against Louisiana College. Now I don't know if that changed with the new RPI tweaks they did to bseball this year.

I remember our game against Louisiana College hurt us last year.

Our lineup will consist of a lot of backups to give them a chance to audition for more roles in weekend games

good time for someone to step up and take the leadoff spot.

It doesn't hurt you but it doesn't help you either. It doesn't count in the RPI calculation.

Talk about a Cinderella. Alcorn's RPI is 292 out of 298.

they somehow actually have a worse RPI than UNO, sad. UNO actually beat Alcorn twice earlier this year too Guess that embarrassing loss by Tulane to UNO is really boosting that #263 RPI.

For those who love to harp on the "soft" schedule...we play 11 teams in the top 60 RPI.

Including ooc games against

47 0.559 19 8 15.7 6.8 19 8 Louisiana-Lafayette

48 0.559 21 8 18.9 6.8 21 8 Southeastern Louisiana
57 0.553 13 14 11.5 13.1 13 14 Brigham Young

59 0.551 15 12 12.3 11.4 15 12 Maryland

On a pure comparison between Delta St (or any non D1) and Alcorn, I would rather play the team that doesn't even get calculated in the RPI than the one that is at the bottom of the rankings.

ETA: Also, there is very little doubt in my mind that Delta St is a better program than Alcorn anyway.

I don't have a problem with our schedule at all. The SEC is tough enough.

Strictly from a fan standpoint, it would be fun to see top tier programs here in Feb and early March.

They should either do like Southern and Mississippi Valley and recruit more white kids, or do like Alabama St and Bethune Cookman and recruit more Puerto Ricans.

There just isn't enough of a talent pool to recruit only black kids and actually win any games. Especially when no other schools care about what color a kid is, only if he's talented.

Interesting thoughts up there and I will leave it at that...but did you know that the reason B-CU have those Puerto Ricans is because the same coach that Bama St. has came to them from B-CU two years ago...and half of Southern's team is of Latin descent!

Yes. But B-CU hasn't stopped recruiting the island since that coach left for Alabama St.
