They were amazing kids. Very polite and nice.
His brother Terry was a decent player for the Tigers, but clearly didn't have the talent and drive of Joey. I think he was pretty widely considered as likeable a teammate as anybody.

Terry was quieter and more academic minded. Both were National Honor Society students.
Joey was recruited by Notre Dame as a QB.

such a great video on everything albert\joey belle that i can remember and even more!
Dude was absolutely one of my favorite players in the 90s. Those old Indian uniforms, packed Jacobs Field crowds, Albert plugged in the middle of those awesome Cleveland lineups...they had it all...except a title.

yup. there was a game in 86 where tulane beat us 9-7 but joey hit two crushing homeruns both to dead centerfield. they easily went 430 feet each. it was a sight to witness live.

I asked this question to someone who is a complete insider to the program and he said, sadly, the answer is no. A lot of people have reached out to him over the years but he chooses to keep his distance.

I think he has some sort of personality disorder or mood disorder like bipolar.

but speaking of throwback uni's, that purple LSU jersey he was wearing with Louisiana Stat in script, with the gray bottoms and the purple and gold piping on the waste and down the legs, man Nike could make that into something awesome right now.

Great minds...I was thinking the same thing. I would love to see LSU trot out some throwbacks from 80s/90s. Nostalgia hits me hard.

CSB
Went to the Braves/Indians World Series in ‘95 with my grandpa. One of the games we got there super early and watched BP. I was wearing an LSU sweatshirt, standing in the front row behind the plate. Media was everywhere. Belle finished up BP walked around the cage, straight to me and stuck his fingers through the net to give me a five. Media surrounded him and as he walked away one of the reports leaned in to my grandpa and said “he doesn’t normally do that”. I don’t think anyone around us knew why, but it was a cool moment I’ll always remember.

I’ve put this story in here before, but it’s been a while.
My dad went to Huntington and is 2 yrs older than Joey (how he always referred to him) and Terry. He has lots of stories about playing with them growing up. I got to meet him in 95 when I was 5 yrs old at Huntington Golf Course. I was shocked when the best player in the league knew my dad and called him over to come chat for a while. Mountain of a man then.
So my grandmother worked for The Shreveport Times for a very long time. Back when Albert was going thru some issues in Cleveland, some reporter from the Plain Dealer called the Times asking to talk to anybody who knew Albert Belle from when he was younger. That reporter ended up getting dads number and called him. So he answers some questions and doesn’t think anything of it. About a week or two goes by and my dad gets an office call from Terry who informs my dad that “Joey is pissed about what you said. Why would you say all that bad stuff about Joey?” What my dad told that journalist was that Joey Belle was one of the nicest, smartest human beings on planet earth. However, once he stepped inside those white lines he became the biggest a-hole on planet earth. You can guess what part that journalist decided to print and decided to omit from his story. Both things were true about Belle, but I have never heard my dad speak one bad word against Joey Belle in all the stories he told us.

Let me say that I am impressed with the many people who share personal stories and provide insight on so many topics here. I thought I had a pretty good knowledge of LSU baseball history beginning in the Bertman era, but some of you put me to shame.

He’s sitting in a cabin somewhere in the mountains with a rifle and the scope aimed at the only road in.

He and Terry settled in Scottsdale after baseball. Terry was an accountant and acted as Joeys agent/manager during his career. Last I heard Joey was still in AZ.
Terry died young I think he was 45-46. Terry and Joey were twins and very close.
Terry could drive a ball as well.

I like him even more after watching that, and found myself taking his side against Vina, the Halloween kids and the a-hole press. He was the best offensive player in baseball for damn near a decade against some of the greatest offensive players of all time like Griffey, Thomas and Bonds, and he'll never sniff the Hall of Fame. frick those elitist reporters who would keep somebody out because they don't like his personality.
