I really like Derek Ponamsky. Him and Hanagriff really work well together, and reminds me of the days of Gordy Rush. I have no idea if he would even want the job, but I think they would be great.

Rush and Hannagriff were MONEY IMO.

I don't like Risher's game analyses. I find he is kinda all over the map, and contradicts himself at times. For example, sat night he came down hard on Mettenberger saying that he wasn't progressing fast enough and before long Les may have to think about trying a new quarterback. Then 15 mins later, he went on and on about how Zach has had no help this year from the oline and the WRs

Not just that. He kept saying Mett wasn't progressing and had no confidence, then he started talking about how the coaches need to call more complex patterns for the WRs and have Mett make more reads. It was confusing as hell.

Hannagriff was hilarious though. Risher would go off on these little tirades and Hanny would just say, "nope. not gonna do it."

As for the original post of replacing Risher with Ponamsky, that would suck. I don't need 2 hours of recruiting updates, and that's the only inside scoop that Ponamsky brings to the table

Exactly. And all Ott would do is tell us who's covering what spread that day. Mascona is the future there. He and Charlie would be good together.

I have a lot of respect for Ponamsky's take on things. Even though he didn't play QB or football at a high level probably, that doesn't mean he doesn't have better information and much better sources. I'll take the guy with better info than one who's just played the position and struggles to come up with a concise analysis.

I could see Ponamksy with this job in the future, and I hope he does.

Charles Hanagriff and Gordy Rush were an excellent team for the Wednesday night and post game shows. It was great radio.

Ponamsky is a hack who got into the local media by giving Hannagriff, Gordy, Mike Detilier and Moscona carte blanche writing on his little, never heard of, web site. He got credibility from THEM, not by any exclusive info from his own sources. Good business decision to ride these guys' popularity coattails, though.
I trust Gordy and Charles' insider info a whole lot more than this stuttering idiot.

LOL...I'm not a Ponamsky fan per se, but its obvious you're guessing as to how he got to where he is.

Trust me, Rush, Mike D, Hanny & Moscona didn't need carte blanche in terms of writing on his site. He's backed by some LSU boosters and he's tight with Rush & plugged into the staff as a result.

He used his connections to get where he is. Same way lots of folks do it.

But Gordy & Charles' insider info is pretty much the exact same as his. In many cases they're hearing it from the same place at the same time.

Personally, he's a bit of a pete-and-repeat in that he's not EVER going to be objective about LSU. Not to rip off Seinfeld, but I mean it when I say that not that there's anything wrong with that.

But on the postgame show, I want objectivity and I want some hosts who aren't afraid to tell it like it is. Which is something that you simply won't hear out of Ponamsky.

He blamed LSU fans for National Signing Day when we lost Torshiro Davis to Texas. That's one of several examples one could point to, but the bottom line is that you won't really ever hear him question a decision from this staff. Which is because he knows where his bread is buttered.

JMO-but I don't want to hear expert choir preachers on the postgame. Hanagriff toes the line a lot but he'll also call a spade a spade. That's what I want. Rush was the best man for that job, but we moved Jordy out of the sideline reporter role & moved Gordy into it so he can't do all of that at the same time. I think he's also something like VP of Guaranty Broadcasting at this point, so he's got lots of irons in the fire, and hosting 2 hours worth of postgame isn't feasible.

Dunno who the choice would be. As long as its not Rene Nadeau, I'm fine.

+1

Charlie will criticize the coaches when needed (he's stayed on the 1st down run/pass ratio), many times he's right, but when he's wrong, he'll admit he's wrong (2010 "this coaching staff will never beat Nick Saban again" post-Tennessee tirade). I like that Alan Risher gives us a different voice than what we hear during the week.

As a bonus, this will be one of my favorite Wednesdays of the year. It's the Bama/Tennessee week, and Charlie is usually great entertainment this time of year!!!
