If LSU beats Bama and wins the west, when it comes to playoff selection time, you will constantly hear about Bama passing the eye test. This game means nothing for Bama.

The problem is at some point schedule has to come into the discussion

If there is a one loss Michigan or Oklahoma competing for the 4th spot against a 1 loss Alabama team that didn't win the SEC West and didn't beat a single team that finished ranked in the top 25 at some point the schedule will come into the fold. The eye test can tell you lies.

Look, Alabama is good. They're probably the best team in the country. There is no analysis that's going to change that. I suspect that they would be 8-0 even if they played our schedule. I think the Tigers have as good a chance as anyone to beat them, but you're fooling yourself you think their strength of schedule reveals that they are worse than people think they are. They're not.

I agree. Committee isn’t keeping a 1 loss Bama out though. Bama would destroy Michigan and OU. The fine line between most deserving and better team.

Agreed

That's likely. It's also likely that their margin of victory wouldn't be nearly what it is now. I don't think they're going to be putting up 42 at the half on a defense like MSU. Do you?

No one is suggesting they're bad. I'm suggesting they're not the greatest team in the history of college football.

No.

I have no way of knowing if they are the best in the history of college football. Probably not, because that is such a hyperbolic statement. But I think they deserve to be ranked #1 right now, in this season. I'm hoping that changes next weekend however.

Haha you serious?? They will drop like a rock all the way down to 3 or 4. No matter the outcome sat, bama will stay top 4

I also believe they deserved to be ranked #1 and should be favored against us

I'm just pointing out that their schedule to date is worthy of note

We'd likely be 8-0 against that lineup as well. There are probably 5 other teams that would be undefeated with those 8 teams on the schedule.

At this point, I think Clemson should probably be getting a lot of the #1 votes honestly

Thinking more about it I don’t see how they would back into the playoffs this year if we did upset them next week.

How can they justify putting a runner up in their division into the playoffs with ZERO top 25 wins?

Maybe so. Alabama certainly had an easier time with A&M than Clemson did. And the Syracuse game should have people questioning how great Clemson is. But I don't disagree with the general point. We need to see how Alabama plays against us and throughout the rest of the season before we crown them champs.

It wouldn't be justifiable

They'd need help. If the conference champs from either the Big 10 or Big 12 emerge with 2 losses then they likely sneak ahead of them

If they lose to us (and we run the table keeping them out of the SECCG) then there is no way they jump a 1 loss conference champ and they obviously aren't jumping an undefeated conference champ or ND

My bold prediction is that Bama will not be ranked #1 in the initial CFP poll that comes out on Tuesday. They won’t have any wins over the CFP top 25 when A&M drops out. Think Clemson gets the nod

Lawrence has now taken over for Clemson and they have been murdering people

He was knocked out of the Syracuse game and they had to win that with their 3rd string QB

Clemson is not the same team that they were earlier in the season. Their defensive line is now playing up to their potential and the secondary has improved. And Lawrence looks more than capable of lighting people up with or without Etienne having a good game

It should be 1-4 Clemson, Alabama, ND, and either Michigan/LSU in the 4 spot

I 100% agree they've played no one...but throttling ole miss and aTm is still pretty impressive

They're obviously impressive and deserve plenty of praise

Their schedule to date has been pretty suspect though so they're tough to evaluate

We know they're very good. We just don't know how good they are. if they beat us soundly then that will be a feather in their cap and they'll get to show out in another big game presumably against UGA in the championship game.

If they're the greatest team of all time they'll have a chance to prove it. I'm not convinced they belong in that discussion yet.

Remember when OU beat TAMU 77 0? People understandably thought they might be the greatest team of all time. Turns out they weren't.

This game means nothing for Bama.

Not true. At least not exactly.

Clemson
ND
Big10 champs/ big 12 champs

These will get in over Bama if the top 2 are undefeated and the 3rd only has one loss.

A ND loss will open the door for Bama to squeeze in.
