Solid win by the Tigers. Neither team played their best, but the effort was definitely there by our guys. Observations:
1. The critical section was at the 15 min mark of the second half. Cook went to the bench with three fouls and was still off the court till about 9 mins left in the game. Despite this, the Tigers held their ground and even increased the lead. Cook didn’t have a great shooting night, but everyone else seems so much more relaxed when he’s handling the ball.
2. Bravo to Hunter Dean- his tough play inside was key.
3. I watched Tyrell Ward make 14 of 15 from 3 point range in warmups. The kid can shoot, and I think the staff will be using him a lot for kick out opportunities from 3.
4. Aggies were clearly quicker than the teams we’ve been playing, but we didn’t go crazy making turnovers.
5. I just thought LSU fans whined about calls, but Aggie brings it to a new level.
6. Finally, the atmosphere here is just …..”different”. The Aggie fan base favorite time-out entertainment was the Crawl for Cash, where two guys crawled around on the court on their hands and knees with their butts in the air. ( won’t comment further- some fruit is just hanging too low).

Every fan base whines about calls when their losing. LSU fought like hell for rebounds

Great win, played hard with not a lot of turnovers. Ate the glass too.

Baker got heat from the casuals, but he had a solid 2nd half. Early in the first half he looked bad but A&M double teamed him early and clearly game planned against him. In the 2nd LSU went away from Baker and thrived with others as the primary option.

There is SO MUCH weird about this cult to even rate them. Seriously, this bunch is really weird and fricked up.

Hunter Dean is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. He is definitely a lot better than I thought he would be

to be fair you don’t have many options on butt placement when crawling

True. I forgot to mention the court crawlers were blindfolded. Just really weird.

I haven’t watched us a ton yet this year, but what I have seen definitely makes me question - why doesn’t Dean play more than Baker?

Baker has more height and bulk, but I believe Dean is fundamental better and is a step quicker. Plus he hustles his butt off.

Baker can be a load in the paint if, #1 he is taller than the man guarding him and #2 he goes up with the ball and doesn't hold it too long.

His problem has been he doesn't look for the double team and loses the ball a lot, misses a lot of easy shots because he panics and is a terrible passer. Dean gives you great hustle, rebounding and defense(if he can keep from fouling, this goes for both of them). Dean doesn't have a lot of offensive moves but he doesn't need them. As long as he hits the offensive boards and the guards throw him some good lobs for dunks, he will get you 8 to 12 points. But any points he scores are really bonus.

McMahon decided early on to run the offense through Baker and still tries to do it from time to time. This results in a lot of turnovers and the other players becoming stagnant. It could work but needs much better execution.

I see what you guys are saying on Baker. But in the action I’ve seen, which admittedly has not been a lot, Baker just doesn’t look like he can be a reliable contributor at this level, much less a starter. Running the offense through him as a scorer certainly seems like a bad idea.

Just finished watching the replay and LSU looked solid - much better than I was expecting. The guard play was a real weakness early on but it is getting much better. LSU doesn't have a go-to big but they have a lot of depth and rotate (at least last night) well. They out-rebounded the no. 1 offensive rebounding team last night on their home floor.

Honestly, I wouldn't write off Baker. He has good low post moves and (I think) high BB IQ. He does commit too many turnovers but maybe (hopefully?) that stuff cleans up as the season goes on. Reed and Ward slowly but steadily are getting better. Wright is not flashy but he is a solid player who will likely be on an NBA roster shortly. Dean is a much bigger contributor than I thought he'd be. For us old timers, he looks like a quicker Rick Mattick.

I'm not sure why Collins didn't play but I don't think I'd play him before any of the other bigs right now. I do think it is important to get him minutes for his development given how tall and athletic he is.
