Insomniac 2:45AM thoughts: Excuse poor writing…

If Max hits open receivers and receivers catch balls they should be catching, we win that game easy. Regardless of all of the other issues, we still would have won that game. UCLA was not very good. We just made tons of mistakes. Not sure if the QB accuracy issues are correctable. Hoping he was just flustered from the exotic blitzes.

Glimmers of hope.

I wouldn’t say easy.

We couldn’t stop them.

Though If that pass to Palmer is accurate. That changes momentum.
There were 2-3 plays that could have swung it in our favor had we executed.

Almost every one of those drops the score board was bitching about at halftime were because of late and bad throws.

We don’t win it.

We couldn’t stop their running game.

Turning dropped passes into caught passes wouldn’t have been enough, but it would have made it a little closer.

SIAP. The out come of this game came down to line play on both sides of the ball. We ran the ball for 2 yds per attempt and UCLA ran it for a little over 5 yds per attempt. Line play lost this game. Was it coaching? Was it overrated athletes? I think it’s both. We will find out in approx month. Ed you got a pass for last year’s debacle. You ain’t getting one this year.

Theybran 4 straight counter plays and we failed to stop any of them in the 4th quarter

I'm agreeing with this. OL didn't give Max enough time and DL didn't get sufficient pressure and LBs were awful.

Not really. If LSU hits those plays, UCLA just winds up pouring it on a little bit more than they did. The defense was at their mercy all game long.

We convert a few more plays and they get less chances to run.

This actually makes it worse.

This! And I’m not upset about it. He’s a young QB; hopefully those passes will come quicker. Defense worried me more.

Our D doesn't want anything to do with Brown and Charbonnet. Accuracy of Max was terrible, in the trenches was just aweful. We really could've used this weeks game as a week 1 primer.

We played awful and we still could have won that game if we had made a few plays early

The thing that concerns me is the lack of physicality. LSU has always been a tough hard team and this team looked like another version of last years team that got pushed around.

I want my LSU defense back that intimidated other teams and dominated the LOS

Facts

We had opportunities, and squandered them.

To win UCLA was going to be a shootout type of game. Other than '19 season Bama game, don't recall Tigers winning many of these types.

The 2019 team, if you recall, started out with not the greatest running game and fairly piss poor defense, and it really did not get demonstrably better (‘member that game when Ole Miss ran for 2,000 yards).

So yeah we could have won that game had we made a few catches/thrown some better balls

Yep. If Brennan plays we score 45 and win that game.

I have similar thoughts about the offense. As awful as it looked at times and how ill prepared they seemed to be, simple execution in the passing game by both the QB and WRs should have produced 44 points.

Having said that, offense is about execution so it doesn’t mean shite.

What happened to that great depth full DL that got gashed and looked as weak as our 5 and 6 year OL?

Disagree. Two bad passes, one to palmer and one to Boutte were touchdowns if thrown better. An underthrown ball to Boutte when he had two steps on the defender was a touchdown if placed out leading him, Instead he had to slow down and the defender ran right under the ball and was able to deflect it.

The one to Palmer was as horribly a miss as I have ever seen. Palmer had no one between him and the goal line and no one within 10 yards of him. even a catchable underthrown ball would have given him time to catch it and break for the goal line before anyone could catch him. In stead it was offline and terribly short.

Both early misses and set a bad tone for the offense.
