Or, maybe he is an excellent mentor to young coaches. Coaching trees exist for a reason. It's not that those coaches are exceptional a spotting young coaching talent (although that's part of it). It's that those coaches are exceptional coaches that their assistants learn from and go on to be great coaches themselves.

Yep, the sign of a great leader is the ability to make more leaders.

That damn sure isn't Orgeron's focus. He's more concerned with coach "loyalty." He's not about these guys improving their skills so they can leave and becomes great themselves.

That's probably why he likes Ensminger so much. Don't think I'm out of line in concluding that Ensminger has no real desire to improve his skills and secure bigger and better jobs.

Well, one reason why Saban's so good is that he innovated the practice of these large support staffs to a degree. Orgeron's just copying, which isn't a criticism per se, especially if you add something to improve the idea or put your own spin on it in some way. But would he have had the foresight to do this before anyone else? He didn't. We can't even say what his philosophies are because he has no clear vision. That's one reason why Orgeron isn't the guy to take down Saban. He's simply derivative. He has no original ideas, he's simply taking from others without improving on the design. We'll always be trying to catch up under him

I have no issue with your statement. I think what he's doing is a positive move. That doesn't automatically translate into success and obviously the man driving the move doesn't have a good track record. How it turns out remains to be seen and as I've said before our problems lie further up than the HC position.

The difference is Sabans army doesn’t consist of all his old pals. Orgeron hires people he knows will pat him on the back and tell him good job no matter what happens.

Ed has assembled a great staff and great coaches. No reason to expect or accept another disappointing season with inexplicable losses.

The recruiting class, from what we are told, is severely underrated and has immediate impact guys who fill the needs of our team, so I fully expect us to go toe to toe with bama and Georgia and not lose to anyone else

Too true. The people Saban hires are looking for a pat on the back from him, not the other way around.

I've fallen for the pre season pump too many times to be fooled again. After week 3 we will have a good idea of what this team is made of.

Wonder what you do for a living and why you have likely never reached the position that the 'used care salesman' has? He is CEO of one of the top maybe 10 "companies" in the country and is having at least some success early on at that job. Even if he isn't your perfect candidate, my bet is that he has has already risen higher in his profession than you ever will in yours. Ought to be careful who you throw stones at. Same for the rest of you cheap shot artists.

I read that article and Orgeron used a word that makes me cringe coming from a coach; comfortable.

No one ever did anything great by making moves that they were comfortable with. There were bold, risky moves that sometimes blew up in their faces.

Not to pick on Ensminger but that is the typical "comfortable" hire. Ensminger is not incompetent, but he also will not rock the boat and he'll never leave Orgeron for something better. He sees that as a good thing. Saban just wants the best performing guy for the job.

Give credit where credit is due. I don't begrudge Ed for his achievement. Same could be said of Curley.

You do know CEO is his nickname and not his title right? (Coach Ed Orgeron) and LSU football isn’t a top 10 anything right now thanks in large part to coach O.

It probably wouldn't be that many if we hadn't heard all of that stuff before. It's hard to determine if what's he's saying is true or just hype, again.

no "we" are not. but when "you" are touting the safeties coach hire as some masterful chess move, I think that speaks more to how desperate LSU fans are for some positive news, no?

that safeties coach has been a defensive coordinator. He has worked with Aranda and Raymond knows Aranda's defense.

"Rutgers co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach Bill Busch, a former assistant under Dave Aranda at Wisconsin and Utah State"

"Busch worked with LSU associate head coach/defensive coordinator Dave Aranda at Wisconsin where he coached safeties for two seasons and was also promoted to associate head coach."

"Raymond coached under him while Busch served as defensive coordinator at Utah State in 2009-10."

Dave Aranda in an interview with the Advocate:

"Recruiting wise, the schools I was at with Bill – Utah State and Wisconsin – he was our best recruiter on staff, at both of those schools. There’s not a lot of guys that can do all three of those things well. It’s good to have him."

quote:

and what is "all of the support staff"

Why don't you read the article?

Here's a snippet on one of the support staff:

"LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda and lead defensive analyst Ronnie Wheat are spearheading the Tigers’ effort with the top-40 junior prospect."

Mississippi’s No. 1 prospect loves LSU, has them in his top 2

quote:

sounds like some quasi-nebulous term just casually thrown around by fans on a message board

Sounds like something that someone who knows absolutely nothing about college and pro football would say.

quote:

Ed Ogreron said he was going to get top flight coordinators.

And he did. The first one did not work out. The second one has only shown what he could do as an interim and set four or five LSU all-time offensive records during six games on the job. How he does in the permanent position remains to be seen.

quote:

then Orgeron hired a guy at OC who was on record saying "I don't want to be OC." (again this is a fact, not my opinion)

Apparently, he changed his mind. Can people not change their minds these days?
quote:

Orgeron also signed one of the lowest ranked classes LSU has signed since they started ranking signing classes, which is unfortunate considering he is an "ace recruiter". and as far as "locking up the state"...well a quick glance at bamas 2 deep for next season I see no fewer than 4 players from louisiana.

That lowest ranked class included a member of Florida's 6A All-State first team. The player was ranked as the 19th best recruit of LSU's 22 players signed.

Those rankings you mention also had Greedy ranked as the 16th best recruit in LSU's 2016 class. Not to mention having Jacob Phillips as the top ILB in the nation. He played behind Tyler Taylor who was the 11th. JaCoby Stevens was the best safety according to those rankings. Freshman Grant Delpit started all season at safety while JaCoby was moved to offense.

So yes, I hope you put a lot of stock into the rankings and continue to be miserable about LSU's 2018 class.

How many Louisiana players did Bama get this class? Dare Rosenthal was committed to Bama. Did he sign with them? Kelvin Joseph who Saban visited a few days before signing day - did he sign with Bama? How about Terrace Marshall the #1 WR in the country - Bama bound huh?

quote:

so yeah, while you are getting excited about fluff pieces about how next week the guys will be "flying around the practice field", some of us will be looking at the facts and trying to figure out how does LSU match their win total from last season.

What ever you do, don't read the article. You will feel like an idiot if you do, that is, if you don't feel like one already.
