Figure It Out Yourselves

Thought I would share the Advocate article this morning. You guys may recall, I posted a few weeks back the competition was very close because the guys, but in my opinion, I thought Jack was making a good push to start.

I know what the guys say in the article, but can tell you they not only would prefer a Special Teams Coach....but an actual kicking coach. For such an important position, I am always amazed that larger school do not budget in a special coach for kickers. Most STC have no idea how to coach kickers. I know NCAA has cap on the number coaches on staff and that there is a pending measure to add one or two...but, man...for such an important position, you could find a guy that knows his stuff and bring him on board as your cheapest paid coach.

Anyway....Geaux Tigers....will keep ya'll updated.

Coach: Practice until you can make it through the goalposts consistently.

Kicker: OK.

I don't think this warrants a full time coaching position.

While I don't think we need a full time coach to just coach kickers, it's much harder than "kick it through the goalposts." There is a lot of technique involved between placement of plant foot, hip and shoulder movement, leg motion and follow through.

Are there offseason camps for kickers similar to the Clarkson or Gruden QB camps? It seems like it would be a good investment since a kicker's mechanics and psychology are such specialized areas.

Special teams would be in better hands with no one coaching them rather than Peveto still on staff.

The few recruits they lost because Peveto was fired is a drop in the bucket compared to the game day fiasco special teams were, and to think Miles thought peveto could run the defense. All Chavis hire did was prolong the agony with Miles.

Yes. Only reason I know that is because the kickers/punters who died in the car wreck last year were at a kicking camp at the time.

Culp admitted earlier this spring that the trio, also competing at kickoff, has struggled in that regard. Kickoffs have troubled LSU in the past.

“We haven’t been very good,” Culp said.

There’s plenty of time to improve, of course.

Are they referring to this spring practice or past games?

Shadow Staff is the solution.

Knowing what I know and have seen....I think he is referring to Spring Practice.

Shadow staff is absolutely the solution. send film of practice to a "kicking expert". ST coach calls afterwards to break down the film, offer drills and adjustment recommendations.

Glad I could help.

It doesn't take a coach watching you kick everyday to help with that. You could watch a fricken youtube video and practice that. I mean you're just kicking a ball. You either know how to do it or you don't. If you can't figure out on your own why you're shanking everything to the right, then you're probably not cut out to be a kicker.

If I were a former college kicker, I would become a special teams guru and learn how to coach all aspects of ST. An actual kicking coach that could also coach special teams would be in high demand, IMO.

our kickers should learn how to kick via YouTube... now I've heard it all.
So we can only have 10 counting the HC this year:

1. O
2. Aranda
3. Canada
4. Jenkins - DL
5. Grimes - OL/running game
6. Raymond - DB
7. Ensminger - TE
8. Joseph - WR
9. Robinson - RB
10. Johnson - OLB: this one is oddly specific to have instead of a ST coach.

Exactly. Most, if not all, of NFL teams don't even have a full time "kicking coach."
