LSU site says he avg 43.6 ppg as a Freshman this adds 785 pts to his total 3667 plus 785 equals 4452 total points in his college career. Dale Brown is quoted with saying " Score 15 3point shots every game in your college career for 3 years to break Pete's record.

This is a 2016 Tiger Rag article about Pete at LSU.

I guess the point of this if you are going to push the Catlin Clark passing Pete. She has 32ppg in 4 years. You should give Pete's true numbers. So Catlin isn't passing up Pete's totals. She is a great player on girls team. To be honest kim Mulkey was just as athletic as Catlin Clark back in the Day.

add in 3 point shots. how many of Pete's shots would have been 3 pointers today and add those points in. No comparison.

I agree It’s absolutely ridiculous to compare the two . One not often brought up against Pete is he averaged over 30 shots a game. My earliest memories from Cow Palace was of him raining shots every possession in a set was a shot for him. The few fast breaks were another matter totally. Will never be a player like him but his particular situation was also unique.

So tired of hearing about this stupid arse Pistol/Clark comparison.

It's a discussion for people that lack myelin in their brain.

I'd put any college freshman team against the best women's team in history...

Can't compare Pistol and Clark. Required freshman team and no 3s. Completely different eras.

Records in popular culture are based on totals.

We talk about career hits or career HRs, or single season hits or HRs, not avg hits or avg HRs per season, or per game, etc.

Let’s just talk about records. There will never ever be a basketball player that ends up with a three season avg of 44.2 PPG. It is possible that another woman could come along at some point and do what Clark has done.

Records in popular culture are based on totals.

Except baseball and football scoring hasn't changed. A run is still 1. the strike zone is the strike zone. A TD is still 6 points. A FG is still 3. But basketball instituted the shot clock and the 3 point line. So you are comparing 3 years to 4 years and 2 pointers to 3 pointers. So FACTUALLY Pete's record can't be broken. They can pretend it was. But it wasn't unless you just count 3 years and you only count 2 pt shots. With the 3 and with the current shot clock Pete probably averages 60 ppg.

wtf pretty sure "batting average" is a pretty big deal, a much bigger deal than "hits in a season" in fact. ERA, same deal. In football, they always talk about ypc or passing completion percentage (although the totals are used as well of course). I could go on.

I wonder if we can get AI to do a layover on every single one of PM's shots and determine which ones would've been considered 3 point shots.

Mark Cuban is sexist if he doesn’t draft the highest point total player college basketball history
