The USA is not to “blame”. Their selection process is there for very good reasons.

This is absolutely true, holding trials where you MUST WIN yourself a place on the Olympic Team not just be NAMED to the team because of your fame & name recognition.

More like an anti-statue for every single person loosely connected to the school that’s really good

By treating him the same exact way we treat every other gold medal winning athlete we have?

Mondo wanted special treatment. The US rightfully said no. Mondo chose to do what is best for him personally. You don’t have to make the USA in the wrong…

Did he? Or did Sweden just offer different treatment than you’d get competing for the US?

I am a Mondo fan, but he spent one year here and had a bad NCAA finals and didn’t win NCAAs that’s really hard to say deserves a statue.

IF he expected the US to match what Sweden offers (his dad on payroll and no trials) yes he wanted special treatment

Not nearly as weird as the athletes who cover their bodies with tattoos to "honor" people. That's just nasty.

Mondo is a traitor. He got paid and special favors to compete against the U.S. for the betterment of another country.

Where was he born?
Where was he raised?
Where did he go to college?

Who did he represent in the Olympics?

You want to give him a statue? To hell with Mondo Duplantis. I hope the next time he attempts a vault, the pole breaks in half and it goes straight up his you know what when he comes down.

He's from Louisiana, went to LSU, his brother is one of the best baseball players in LSU history, and his parents are LSU alums.

So I always cheer for him and loved watching him win gold and establish a new world record. He brings a lot of good publicity to LSU and Louisiana.

But a statue? He was in school just one and didn't do anything noteworthy at LSU. I'll always be a fan and hope he wins a couple more gold medals. But I can't agree with the statue.

Try to reply to the original poster if you disagree with his idea.

And wishing for someone to be seriously injured or killed is a pretty sick thing to hope for.

People

We have to get a hold of ourselves

He never made 1st team All Sec. without looking it up I would say minimum we have had 75 1st team all sec players

ETA;

We have had 96 1st team all sec recipients. But some people won it more than once so 75 is pretty close to the number

Isn't Antoine the all-time hits leader for LSU baseball? I think maybe second in SEC history when he finished at LSU?

Yes

But he isn’t, IMHO, a top 100 lsu baseball player. You have to understand our best players aren’t staying 4 years

That’s a big IF, the way you are phrasing it sounds like him and his family demanded certain treatment from the USATF. From my understanding Sweden does not have trails like the US which would not be “special treatment” so much as you don’t have trails in Sweden.

Aslo people (not saying you) seem to forget his mother is Swedish so he’s been a Swedish citizen since birth. It’s not like they just found the “highest” bidder to meet certain demands.

You do realize that top athletes actually have records of accomplishments it’s not just “name”. Trails means you have a own one specific meet regardless of past accomplishments

ETA for the golf team The top 2 ranked from the country are selected if a player is in the top 15 the country can have up to 4. No 1 time winners make the team tournament

I mean we don’t have to bury our heads man

He went to Sweden because they put his dad on payroll. That’s fine. It makes sense. But he is 100% American and chose another country to sweeten his personal pot

What he did is basically unheard of. An American 100% born and raised athlete who is a medal favorite choosing another country.

That’s why it’s being talked about so much.
