What the kid needs is the desire to work. He came here with a shot ton of talent and a just maybe the attitude to match. Once he settles in to learning and improving himself he is going to kick the shite out of college hitters. I look for him to be a big contributor later in the year.

wtf do you know about him?

First game jitters. As Lyn put it, home plate was the size of a postage stamp.

I’m not worried, but it’s probably not just first game jitters. When a guy throws 95 from the left and goes to college he’s going to be wild. If they can get him under control he will be a force. It will probably take time.

Like CJJ's comments re what he told CJ: "this is the worst you can look & you only gave up the one run". "Not worried at all, we can coach him to be better in the strike zone as he's performed a lot better all Spring".

How would yall describe his release? Looked a little side-arm to me. Something different about it, which is a good thing especially when he is throwing strikes.

slackster, you are asking the right question! The problem is I already answered it. Look, I’m not a guy that bashes players, (I was wrong about how much Jayden Daniel’s would improve, I admit it! Lol)
Dude is Uber talented, I don’t think he’s all that raw like others do either. He’s one of the best freshmen pitchers in the country plain and simple. But, when you advance to each level you have to really reset your focus and work on getting yourself better. The individual really has to initiate that and put iin to practice the coaching they get. I’m not saying he isn’t going to do that, I actually believe he will. (He wasn’t quite as motivated as others initially) It’s why I said I think he’ll be a big contributor as the year goes along.
He is a competitor, he’ll rebound and will shine imo. Days like today will help him though, it gives the individual perspective and a better understanding of what’s required.
Some of this I know, and some is my opinion. I sure hope my opinions come to fruition because he’ll be a blast to watch.

I don’t know enough to say, but Ben NcDonald was saying that he was turning his body to the plate too soon, which was leaving the ball outside on the arm side.

He could be terrible this entire year and it wouldn’t mean much to me.

Did not see where you answered the question from slackster. Very likely you don't know and can't speak to Johnson's work ethic.

I'm pulling for the big guy to develop into a version of Paul Skenes. His outing on Sunday showed us that he has a cannon of an arm and when his nerves settle down he will be special to watch.

Pretty sure he hit 97 in high school. With his size and raw talent, I'd be shocked if he isn't living in the high 90's in his career. He may even hit triple digits from the left side at some point which is wild to see in college.

This is terribly worded. You might not have meant to imply he didn't have a work ethic but the wording of this statement does just that.

It was his first appearance in a live Collegiate atmosphere and was clearly nervous which has nothing to do with a work ethic.

He’s listed at 6’5”…. For those in person, did he look that tall on the mound? He seemed a little shorter than that watching on my phone.

No such thing.

I forget how poorly words come across in black and white.

My intention was to convey that he’s struggling to locate because it’s getting away from him, not that he needs to intentionally “throw flat” or that movement was a bad thing.

I actually only got to listen to G3 and haven’t been able to watch him for myself. On the radio they threw some movement stats out there that made it seem like his average fastball runs like a mediocre-to-good slider, but at 95. I’m looking forward to seeing him over the next few weekends.

To my untrained eye he was just missing the strike zone by inches. Looked like he was rushing and trying way to hard which is understandable in his first collegiate game.

I feel like a great pitching coach could tweak his stuff pretty quickly.
