Yeah, he could shoot.
But I remember him stealing the ball from the Tennessee Point Guard, just past Mid Court. He drove down and laid it in.
Tennessee inbounded the ball and their Point Guard crossed Mid Court. Chris did it again. It looked like an "instant replay".

I didn't get to see Pete Play. But LSU definitely had two of the greatest shooters in the history of the game.

It’s bananas that he and shaq were on the same team & Ga Tech knocked us out in the second round.

Statistically, those two dude’s names take up a lot of space in LSUMBB record books lol.

But Brady’s Tyrus & D.Mitch team is IMO the best squad we have ever had — they just ran into a buzz saw in the final four, in what (in hindsight) was probably one of UNC’s top 10 all time teams.

Wasn’t the final score like 145-143 or something like that. I have this game on VHS somewhere.

I can usually only make it to about 25 FTs before I miss, although never have anyone rebounding (which I think helps).

My best skill was always getting to my spot in that free throw line extended area and rise up quick and high enough to get space over bigs. CJ did that really well in his freshman year, which was the time I was around 12 and emulating his every move.

Those 2 together should have won it all! They were fun to watch!

CJ was the best shooter I've ever seen in person. Steph Curry is the only comparable to his game.

Up 20 in the game they were eliminated vs Ga. Tech who ended up in the final 4. No excuse Dale Brown blew it

There was a high school player who hit 94 of 100 3 pointers in a gym full of college scouts. Throughout his high school, college, and professional career he never left practice until he made 100 free throws in a row. Blake Griffin, the multiple All-Star in the NBA said that this kid was the greatest shooter he ever saw.

I still can't believe LSU didn't win a title with CJ and Shaq

CJ’s FT percentages were higher in college and the pros

His freshman year we were picked to finish at the bottom of the SEC. We’d lost Mo and Stanley to prop 48 and no one realized how good CJ would be then he dropped 48 then 53 then 55 and all of the sudden he’s on the cover of SI and people started flooding to the PMAC. He was a phenomenon, for a college freshman in the pre internet era he was everywhere and he delivered.

He didn’t play nearly as hard with everyone and their brother hanging off of him. Not even close.
He is still in the record books for this.
Most in a game: 30 — Pete Maravich, LSU (above); Ben Woodside, North Dakota State
Most in a season: 355 —Frank Selvy, Furman
Most in a four-year career: 982 — Tyler Hansbrough, North Carolina
Most in a three-year career: 893 — Pete Maravich, LSU

I’ve never had more confidence in any one player in the history of LSU basketball to win a game for us. The only other LSU player that comes close is Burrow as far as confidence that he would win a game for us.

Yeah, we beat UNC. Probably the only time in history that we beat the Tar Heels. Man I was happy to finally beat that team.

On the final 4 run in 06. I think you guys are remembering the 09 team that beat Butler then lost game late vs eventual champs UNC and were the only team to challenge that UNC group in the tourney

Crazy that McMahon's greatest accomplishment as LSU's head coach is hitting 45 straight free throws in practice.
Santa.

Not sure you could achieve that. And I doubt Shaq made 45 total in his career at LSU.
