Phillies at Braves Thursday
Loved watching him pitch in BR...Hated seeing him going to the damn Phillies though...good for him glad to see former Tigers being successful.

One of the best to put on the P&G! Well deserved

I'm guessing that means that Jay Carrieta guy isn't ready to go quite yet.

Your Braves can eat a dick.

Your Braves?? You own them?

My phillies are gonna be much improved next year, and then when we add Trout when he's a fa, watch out!!

That's awesome. Funny how his scouting report coming out of college was a ceiling of a #2 or #3 starter and not an ace because he didn't have an electric fastball. Not saying there was no merit behind that prediction, but with the movement he has on all his pitches and his ability to fill up all parts of the strike zone, can't say I'm shocked he's put himself in the position to be an opening day starter in the major leagues. One of my favorite Tigers ever to watch.

I’m a Braves fan also! Can’t stand him being on the Phillies!

I think he's the best pitcher I've ever seen at LSU

He is the best pitcher I’ve ever seen at LSU. It was a pleasure watching him dominate the SEC like he did.

Well, he's arguably the best pitcher in LSU history. Only one other pitcher even has an argument and no slight on Ben McDonald, but I think Nola's full body of work is more impressive.
For reference:
Nola: 30-6, 2.09 ERA, 332 IP, 345 K, 52 BB, 240 H, .201 OPPBA
McDonald: 29-15, 3.68 ERA, 271.1 IP, 373 K, 69 BB, 263 H

Hope Nola goes 9.0 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 15 K
And the Braves win 1-0 on an unearned run from a couple errors

Different eras, McDonald faced more juiced up bats (and probably players), but his strikeout rate was just absolutely insane (12.3k per 9.0 IP). Nola had a much lower ERA, but also a much lower strikeout rate (9.4k per 9.0 IP) and also got to play in the BBCOR with no flat seam ball era.
They were both outstanding and considering the time differences, it's tough to really stack 1 up against the other and declare a clear winner.

Nola also had a much better K/BB ratio of 6.63 compared to 5.40. I agree that it's difficult to compare across different eras for the reasons you stated, which is why I said it was arguable and it's just my opinion Nola's complete body of work was more impressive.

You know watching Lange pitch the last few years was great but you always had to wonder if he’d have control of his curve. If he controlled the curve, he’d be dominant. if he struggled to throw his curve for a strike, he’d be good but not great.
With Nola, I can’t remember a single game where he didn’t have it. He was the most consistent pitcher I have ever seen at LSU.

His last 2 years he was almost perfect. he lost 2 games, one against UCLA in 2013 in which he have up zero earned runs and one against Florida in 2014 in which he gave up 2 earned runs in 8.2 innings. Both games were 2-1 final scores
