On paper they absolutely made a better hire
This. I remember when people here were freaking the frick out over us signing lowly 3* Damien Lewis to play alongside the stud Badara Traore or however you spelled it. It’s not like we just hired some scrub coach, he could be great here

Zero southern experience
He better get some assistants that know the region

They made the better football hire too. But what have they done with it so far?

TCU ever make the CWS finals with their coach, much less one who was 39 years old?

Yeah but you also kinda think that Schloss has peaked
5 CWS 11-10 record. Never won more than 3 games. Never made the final series.
He also had pretty mediocre season in 2017 and 2018 and basically made the Tournament based on reputation in 2018 he was 34-28 (11-13) and 6th in the Big 12
Johnson has been to as many WS in the past 6 years as Schloss and has as many down years. If you look at the 2019 TCU team they were anything special. Finished behind Kansas and Tied with Ou and basically made a Regional on reputation alone. (Went 2-2 in Fayetteville)
Was there anything keeping him back at TCU for 15 years that A&M is gonna give him besides better competition?

coach with proven resume
He is a great coach, but Johnson got further in his 1st year at Arizona than Schlossnagle has gotten in 18 years (and they sucked the previous year before he got there).

Nah. Gorilla ball is back. I don't care if we have early season Rickie Vaughn on the mound. We're gonna wreck some shite.

Bertman came from Miami. You can’t get much more southern than that

Five trips to the College World Series at a place like TCU should stand on its own merits.
TCU isn't Vanderbilt. It doesn't have that Vandy scholarship situation. Schlossnagle had to recruit kids and try to make it work at a private university with a $50,000 tuition. They don't have any TOPS program.
His teams didn't have LSU's gift of automatically being chosen to host a regional each year, but he won Super Regionals on the road, including at Texas and at Texas A&M.
Look at his coaching tree. Todd Whitting (Houston), Vitello (Tennessee) and Randy Mazey (West Virginia) are all former assistants.
We'll have to see who made the better hire.
I'll always pull for the Tigers, but this was a consolation hire. I guess Woodward isn't AD Jesus, after all.

Yep, nothing says “southern” like a massive, luxurious city that’s situated on the beach and made up of 80% 1st or 2nd generation Cuban immigrants. Skip surely knew his way around a baw when he got to LSU, growing up in Detroit and living in Miami and all
