3 of 4 NCAA's is inconsistent? Make a list right now of SEC teams that have been to the NCAA tournament 3 of the last 4 years. It will be a very short list.

Homerun hire for Alleva! Imagine what he'd bring in based on the rumors if Miles left. If it was who was rumored, sound like a Alleva like hire...

I just wish we could get a Dale Brown clone, to be honest. Not only did he consistently have competitive teams, but he was approachable and likable in a way these two guys just don't seem to be.

Dale was a great ambassador for LSU, far beyond these guys. He doesn't know me from a hole in the ground, but I saw him at a book fair at the State Capitol a couple years back. I approached him and said I still have an old LSU flag he and the team signed at the airport after losing to Indiana in the tourney (I think it was 86), and the man just lit up. We had a 15 minute conversation on sports and life, and as I remember, I think it was I who ended the conversation with "it's been a pleasure, Coach, but my little one is getting tired. Great to meet you"

I can't see Trent doing much more than maybe nodding and moving on. Not dissing Trent for that, but Dale was a big part of the reason people came to games and rooted for the Tigers- you find yourself liking the guy. I just don't find myself liking Trent in the same way, to root him on, just as I didn't care one way or the other for Brady. I doubt you could approach Brady with "hey coach, that year Stromile tore up Arizona in the PMAC, that was a special memory for me" and get much more than a grunt.

LSU is getting worse and worse every year under Johnson.

Actually they got a lot better than the previous year in TJ's first year. This makes two bad years in a row but was not unexpected. I think they have underachieved somewhat but that can at least partially be written off to injuries. Two guys who will be instant starters next year are in the wings and a third who will contribute as a freshman as well. He gets at least one more year to prove himself IMO. Also take that Stanford fan's writing with a grain of salt since Johnson turned the team around the following season and won Pac 10 COY.

Good thing that wasn't the only thing I said, then.

As for the 3 freshmen being our best players, that is just a reflection of how bad the team really is.

No. That's a reflection of a team leaning on true FR that aren't quite ready to carry the load themselves

Fixed. Don't ever refer to that as Brady's talent

What a load of garbage. I was elated when Brady got sacked, but to pretend that in spite of him we went to the 2006 Final Four is retarded.

2011-2012 season will be for his job, and I personally hope the team improves tremendously. TJ seems like a solid guy, we just need to get a few stud players to get us going, we'll win games, people will get excited and attend games, and the recruiting will fall into place as well.

Yea on talent that was laid in his lap. He did semi coach a few times when he wasn't pouting, but the rest was carried by luck and homegrown talent

A lot of LSU fans expected for the team to struggle last year and be in rebuild mode this year. That's absolutely true.

We haven't seen that. We've seen terrible basketball with what looks like zero fundamentals being taught at all during the week at practice.

There is literally not one damn thing the team does well this year. Not one.

That's not struggling or rebuilding, that's sinking.

This is like reading the BYU take on Crouton. Please don't delete, as I'm not calling for his firing, but it's time that we look objectively at Trent Johnson. These are the things that we didn't hear when he was hired that are seeming more and more true each day.

This is an oversimplistic analysis to say the least. And this is reflective of the biggest problem with the majority of criticism on this board. It is made at such a high level, that it truly is worthless.

Try taking a look a little bit deeper to figure out why LSU is struggling the way it is. Is it personnel? Is that Johnson's fault? Has the problem been corrected? When will he have the personnel needed to compete? If you answer these questions, then you might be closer to figuring out whether Johnson is the right coach or not.

Simply pointing to a post from someone years ago that resembles the situation that we are in is meaningless. Try harder.

I'm starting to agree with this assessment.
It's one thing to have the year LSU had last year - that was understandable.

This year - I would have expected to see more improvement than we've seen. Injuries have been a factor but getting outplayed the way they are some things have to change and its up to Trent to make those changes in staff. He has probably has two more years of excuses.

TJ needs to go especially in light of what bama's coach has done in the same/less time.

Anthony Grant has not even taken bama to the NCAA's yet, nor won the SEC...he also has a good amount of seniors on that team. Evaluate him next year when he has new guys come in and get back to me

Anthony Grant has not done as much at Bama as Trent Johnson has at LSU. I don't see how this justifies firing Johnson.

As for the Stanford post, it was written right after a Stanford team that shouldn't have made the tourney got destroyed by a good Louisville team. The next year the Lopez twins improved a ton, were ready to take on more of the burden, and led Stanford to the Sweet 16.

Trent Johnson has also had success at two other programs. Some of the struggles of these last two seasons have to go on TJ, but to pretend that he didn't have a good (and I said good, not great) track record before he came here is bullshite. He should and will be back next season. Next year will be his big test.

It's all Gary Crowton's fault.

Wait...

He is at Maryland now?

I'm so glad you follow basketball recruiting closely to know that guys like Ross Neltner, Jaime Loreda, Tac Minor, Darrel Mitchell, Chris Johnson, Magnum Rolle and Anthony Randolph were all from Baton Rouge. And isn't one of the jobs of a coach to keep talent in your back yard at home? And to somewhat defend TJ, there is certainly a lack of that backyard talent like Taz, Big Baby, Brandon Bass and Tyrus Thomas latley. Most of our players now are from out of state which is a hard pull.
