A large faction is so convinced that you can only replace a title winning HC with another

they asked the same thing when the Miles tenure was starting to turn south. "WHO DO WE REPLACE HIM WITH THAT HAS AS GOOD A RESUME?!?!"
my bros, that is such a lazy and unimaginative outlook on trying to replace a coach.

In terms of making it to Omaha, Smoke had a better resume than Mainieri when we made the change.
People here are morons. News at 11.

Not to mention baseball is 100x easier to coach than football. This argument works for football, but there are absolutely HS baseball coaches who would be better coaches than some of the major colleges

I don’t think you get Godwin or Tadlock away from their alma maters

Have you seen florida’s baseball field? Its a shitehole. Make O’Sullivan say no

Edit: LSU fans would have been calling for O’Sullivan’s head if he had the same success here as he’s had at UF

It's still in Florida though, which means it's an easier recruiting job. Why would he leave it?

I agree, but the search should start with championship caliber coaches, because why not? If the program's proven itself capable of winning a championship, then that is an attractive draw to the best coaches.
Start there and work out in concentric circles; you then look for coaches that regularly win conference championships, division championships, and so on. I think the coach you hire should have demonstrated excellence.

i agree with that approach, you kick the tires with the top level elite guys, then you go elsewhere when they inevitably turn you down.
it's the right move.
but it isn't the only move to make

You should replace your coach when you believe that the future with a new hire is more likely to be better than your future with your existing coach.
It's that simple.
Having said that, anyone who is simply a "bottom line" kind of person who says "No championship, fire him" shoudln't be taken seriously.
I'd say 85% of our fan base are the simple thinkers.

and why would he want to come to a place where people will be calling for his head if he doesnt win a national championship in two years. people act like all these coaches would leave any situation just to come to lsu. it's ridiculous. why would they come here to be underappreciated and never live up to peoples unrealistic expectations of what the program should be. Maineri would have a statue at most places in the country for what hes done but people here think his success can just be replaced at the snap of a finger.
