I know the south endzone was already messed up, but it's a damn shame they lost the classic look except for on one side.

i agree, but this has happened to a lot of stadiums over the years that have added upper decks. there's a bunch of pictures on the last few pages of the stadium expansions thread on the secrant. there was a period of time where schools didn't seem to care about the aesthetics of stadium expansions as much as the most cost effective way to get more people in the stadium. it wasn't until the past 5-10 years where people started to rethink things and try to either renovate what they have, sometimes downsizing, to make stadiums more visually pleasing on the exterior or take that into account when making expansions.

i think the stadium looks great from on the field. from the outside, not so much. looks like a big hodgepodge of architectural ideas

The west upper deck was torn down at the end of the 2004 season, and construction began on "The Stadium Club." The new suites contain over 3,200 special amenity seats as a well as a state-of-the-art press box. The "Paul Manasseh Press Box" has been named for and dedicated to the memory of the long-time and popular sports information director. Construction on this addition was scheduled to be completed by the beginning of September 2005, but delayed due to Hurricane Katrina. Construction was completed for the 2006 season, bringing the stadium's capacity to 92,400.

This paragraph isn't really right. :/

Whoever designed the exterior of the west side should have his architectural license taken away.

I agree 100%

Drove by today and my thoughts were how disappointing the west side takes away from the original Tiger Stadium look

Which part? This is from LSUSports.net:
quote:

The distinctive environment of Tiger Stadium became even more pronounced in 2005 as the ambitious West Upper Deck project was virtually completed. Construction on the project -- which began immediately after LSU's home finale against Ole Miss in November of 2004 - carried a $60 million price tag and rebuilt over 3,200 special amenity seats as a well as a state-of-the-art press box to Tiger Stadium. The west side renovation, which included the removal and rebuilding of the upper deck to mirror the east side upper deck, was finished during the 2006 season.

Construction was delayed long before Katrina. It was going to last through 2005 before the storm hit. LSU is trying to rewrite that bit of history.. passing it off on Katrina and hoping no one notices.

They said it was to be completed by the beginning of September. Katrina hit at the very end of August. So it should have already been completed.

You realize August is before September, right?

You realize the end of August is virtually the same thing as the beginning of September?

Virtually. But they're technically not the same thing.

At the max there was a week left until the scheduled completion date when Katrina hit. The upper deck should have been done. Katrina didn't delay anything that wasn't already delayed.

Looking at those old pics the thing that just jumps out at me and makes me just sad is that Middleton ever happened.

I would loved to have seen the cross shaped quad. That would have made such a beautiful part of campus.

I don't even care that Middleton is a dump now, it just makes me even more sad that it is just there in that particular spot.

Kinda knew that the LSU lakes were WPA-era, but until now I never put 2 + 2 together to realize that meant LSU's move to the Highlands Road plantation (name?) pre-dates the lakes.

Pretty sure I can see the open field that is now my house. Wow.

Thaf Cox academic center

Sitting out in he middle, biggest building on campus.

I didn't realize that building was so old, for how nice the renovation is.

Also why the hell did they ever shoe horn Middleton in the middle of hill library, Prescott, and Peabody
