I - like many of you - am not 100% happy with Kelly's job so far ... but a few things we must consider (I know most of this has been said many times before):

- He inherited an absolute mess from Orgeron and company, from talent to organization to culture.

- Last year they were in crisis mode - building every aspect of the program from the ground up - no time to build the foundational parts of a program - those little administrative and organizational aspects that are crucial to the success of any operation the size and complexity of a major college football program. I suspect they are still working on a lot of this kind of stuff.

- He was hired somewhat on the fly - not a lot of time to select his staff. He kept Polian on that first year because of his recruiting abilities and because he would probably only have stayed if given a significant coaching position - ie, ST Coordinator. We suffered for that in year one, but Kelly got rid of him and improved significantly in year two.

- Same goes for House - all indications coming in were that he was going to be a great hire - NFL pedigree, etc. Last year he was so-so, but maybe that was a talent issue. This year, he was much worse - and I fully expect Kelly to address this in the off-season, just like he did with Polian.

Ironing out staff and coaching issues is always a challenge for a new coach, but even more so when you inherit a program in a mess and have little time to select staff in year 1.

- We lost a lot of talent and recruits in the secondary and BK and company went out an addressed this the best they could brining in Chestnut, Harris, Alexander and Sam. Two did not work out - that was the risk with guys like that. Alexander got hurt and Sam ended up playing waaaay above his weight class. Also no one could have seen what happened with Greg Brooks coming. That's a lot of hits to the secondary that were out of any coach's control.

- I also think that guys like Speights and Swinson and Oghoufo were good gets - but it takes time to work guys like that into the system. Again, their failure to progress fast can be attributed to the Hosue issue above and the lack of culture and organization that can be attributed to the Orgeron legacy mentioned above.

There are plenty more things to point out, but the short story is: Kelly seems to be identifying issues and dealing with them. A lot of the bad is either outside of his possible control or just part of the inherited mess. He has had a couple of great successes also - starting with Daniels and the hire of Denbrock. Bringing in Jenkins immediately was pretty smart and immediately addressed a significant issue.

I'd say Kelly deserves another two years before we start blaming him for much of the negatives. He started out with a shite-wreck - it will take time to develop organization, talent, culture, to solidify the staff, and to get everything moving in the right direction.

My overall grade for him at this point is a B. He must start getting A's soon. LSU fans, sponsors, and administration will not accept B-level performance from a coach they are paying 10s of millions of dollars to. Kelly looks like he could get up that A-level game, but he must do so soon.

I agree. He’s been above average so I give him a B. But he’s still clearly working out kinks in a lot of areas. I’d say if we haven’t at least made the 12 team playoff by year 4, it’s time to start asking major questions about if he can get us where we want to go.

I think your take fricking sucks. Won the West last year in a rebuild and may win 10 this year. Name a 1st and 2nd year LSU coach that has done that? Zero off the field issues as well with this team and he didn’t lose the team after losing to Ole Miss. That tells me these guys want to play for him.

We also have men that want to play the bowl game. Kelly has completely changed the culture here.

Had we not won the west last season you’d be a lot happier about the job Kelly has done in two seasons here.

Let that sink in. Hypothetically, assume we lost to Bama last year because we missed a 2 pt conversion. Everything else over the last two years is the same though.

You’d be a lot happier and you’d feel very encouraged.

I don't think any LSU supporter would be a lot happier if we hadn't won the West last year. Pretty lame pretzel logic.

The dissatisfaction and unrest is because our defense totally sucked balls this year, and it was largely due to coaching on the defensive side of the ball. That's 50% of the team effort. It's coaching subpar performance and since Kelly is in charge of coaching, he is ultimately responsible.

A grade of "B" in and of itself denotes positive feelings about the job being done. Only an idiot would be blissfully happy the way the season turned out this year with this kind of defense.

Only an idiot would believe we would have an LSU defense like in the past. Its going to take Kelly 3 recruiting cycles to get the defense where it should be. Orgeron leaving 39 scholarship players hurt. We hit on the transfer portal last year with our CB and this year we didnt….and that is not Kelly’s fault btw. The talent wasn’t there in the portal.

He has at least 5-6 recruiting cycles because LSU cannot afford to buy him out.

Kelley has done a good job in a lot of areas that are important but are peripheral to the goal of winning championships. There is a great span between where LSU is now and where it wants to be. Kelley is going to have to prove that he can span that gap.

People want championships.

I agree with most of your points, but I'll play devil's advocate on a few things.

1) You keep saying he had little time to put together a staff. I don't know that there is a better time to be hired than when he was, immediately after the regular season. When would be a better time to get hired that would allow for more time to hire a staff?
2) I agree that House should be gone, but it hasn't happened yet so that is still up in the air.
3) When he was hired, he pointed to year 3 as when we would be competing for a national championship. I'm not sure that is a possibility as of now.
4) His recruiting needs to be much better.

Two 10 win seasons after the mess that O and Covid created for 2 years is glorious if I’m being honest.

What I will be is upset when the offense is down and the defense is still bad next year and we go 7-5.

I mean thats a dumb statement to say. There are Bama fans that aren't 100% happy with Saban.

Maybe only Kirby Smart has 100% satisfaction from fans and that's probably not even true.
