They aren't even being subtle about it. We can definitely improve , but some of these scores are ridiculous

I don’t know how gymnastics coaches keep their cool. The scoring is so inconsistent.

Haleigh and Aleah tied in the AA!

I believe they get fined and in trouble if they actively bitch about a score during the meet unless they are challenging a start value. I don't doubt there is bitching and complaints filed behind closed doors about judges.

Watch this Utah girl get a9.9 with the fall.

I guess since we beat Utah last year, they wanted to make damn sure Utah beat us. I expected them to win, but this was way unfair!

I can handle losing, I expected to first meet of the year on the road to a top Utah team. But the scoring is ridiculous. Sure we can drop the score but all these scores add up for national RQS and individual qualifiers for nationals.
Judges need to take this more serious.

This is a 197.2 performance with normal scoring.

Have the top 3 all arounds and lose… robbed

KJ needs to focus on vault and floor. She is gonna get drilled with her leaps on beam.

Don’t look now but next weekend is going to suck also going on the road at Kentucky. Scoring is historically frustrating there and much lower than usual.

Didn’t see the meet. Sounds like the scoring was really bad. Why is it so hard to score consistently for other teams instead of lopsided? Glad I didn’t watch

So isn’t there some governing body that can just watch and see what we all witnessed? Like even an Olympic judge or something who can give an unbiased opinion?

Bars was pretty rough outside a few routines but the scores given didn’t reflect a lot of routines across the board and it didn’t differentiate superior routines from others. You had some routines with some pretty visible errors scoring the same and sometimes more than other routines that were pretty clean.
Sadly this is college gymnastics on the road. Fun sport, tough to watch at times with how they score/rank routines.

On a positive note, the team looked great for a first meet. Maybe it’s a positive to have the scores given out. That’s good feedback on how to get better. No falls and very confident gymnastics. With our bad rotation, the meet would be hard to win. Elena rushes that release combo. The ladies can’t do anything about the scoring to it’s no point in feeling disappointed. Aleah, Kiya, and Haleigh looked great. Much improved consistency and confidence. We’re gonna do great things this season. Improve bars and get those connections on beam.

Don’t think Elena should be in bars. Put Cowan in. I think kj did great on beam. Sierra is a great floor starter. Bryce is going to be great as is Alexis Jeffrey. Aleah will be a superstar!

Cowan is excellent but I think she was a little behind from a procedure this fall. Her JO bars routine would score better than Arenas now
Cowan bars
Hope they get that routine ready as soon as they can especially with no Dunne.
I’ll prob get heat for this. I love Alyona but I feel her bars have regressed, everything is rushed but the dismount got way worse after it improved last year. I’m pleased with her on the other events but it doesn’t look the same this year on bars. Hope she can improve on bars. At the least she needs to tighten up the handstands

How about Chase? I remember her bars being pretty solid.

Trying to look on the positive tonight’s, aside from the scoring.
First, while I don’t think scoring was consistent, I think a lot Of the differences came to down landings - Utah stuck 75% of theirs and we stuck almost none of ours. That’s ok for this time in the season and is easily fixable. On bars that probably gets us .2 back and maybe the same on beam.
Now some apparatus specific thoughts:
Vaults: I think this is where the scoring discrepancy was most egregious as I think our vault rotation was clearly superior to Utah’s. I am still concerned by Jay’s insistence that having 4 10 starts are enough, so perhaps some other things will come along there to get us to at least 5. It also seems like direction deductions will be taken so we will need to watch that.
Bars: This is obviously the biggest concern and tonight did nothing to alleviate my fears. I cannot figure out why Kiya is always scored so low - even though she is the lead off, other lead offs can score 9.85-9.9. Arenas probably has no business in the lineup - her pak is always a journey and her dismount form has severely degraded. I think she peaks at a 9.8 on her best day, which is not going to cut it. I thought Jeffrey looked good and has the right stuff to be a mainstay there. I am concerned about Aleah’s dismount, thag routine is spectacular but that dismount is always going to take a tenth off like Ruby’s did. Haleigh was great. But now to Alyona - I agree Tigerbait, her dismount seems to have regressed and it’s going to be hard to too 9.85z when you have Florida with 5 going over 9.9 on week 1, it is going to be hard to be competitive with our current offering here.
Beam: I was pleasantly surprised here given the number of people who hadn’t really competed here. I thought there was pretty low scoring here as compared to Utah and I feel like it was one of the steadier sets we have had in the last two years after Kai managed to stay on. I am hopeful About this group, but landings are an issue and will need to be fine tuned. Also, I am not quite sure why KJ’s score was so low.
Floor: I think this was a fairly good rotation. I thought that KJ’s score was fairly crazy for that type of mistake but it’s not typical. I was actually fairly pleased with Sierra’s leadoff and I was skeptical of that being the right choice. The back three are obviously great and Aleah was perfection tonight - I think haleigh and Kiya might have been underscored, but those scores at least were consistent with Utah’s. But to alyona - I feel like her floor always seems chaotic to me and that is what I thinking is holding her score back.
I love gymnastics and to do deep dives like this, so interested in what everyone else thought. Though the score doesn’t reflect it, I thought a solid start with some definite areas of improvement.
