That can't be right.

With the win, LSU has accomplished two very significant objectives – winning 40 games in the regular season, and going undefeated in mid-week games this season (14-0). LSU has only won 40 games in a single season twice since 1988. In 2004 and in 2009, LSU won 40 games and went to the College World Series, and in 2009 they won it all.

40 in reg season is pretty good. Most season totals you find will have post season included. Thats another possible 13 or so wins.

They play several more games now, too. Great accomplishment though.

Think about it this way. 20 wins n the regular season during sec play is a good accomplishment. Then you need 20 more wins somewhere and during those years you only played 1 midweek game all year. Just hard to find 20 wins somewhere else back then between mid week games and the few out of conference series.

40 wins in the regular season has not been common at LSU (or anywhere else) regardless of the decade.

It was pretty common in the 90's. 1994 and 1999 were the only years we didn't win 40+ games in the regular season.

REGULAR SEASON

Correct.

Winning 40 out of 53 games played this season is quite an accomplishment as evidenced by how rare it has happened at LSU even going back to the gorilla ball days of the '90's and early '00's.

We will enter the CWS with 51 wins when we sweep USCe, win the SECT, and go 5-0 in the regional/super regional.

FWIW, I went to the media guide and looked it up.

Regular season record (before SEC Tourny)

1990 44-15
1991 43-16
1992 43-13
1993 41-14-1
1994 38-18
1995 42-14
1996 43-13
1997 45-11
1998 41-15
1999 36-19-1

its not

In '97 LSU won 57 games, there was no Super Regional & we didn't win the SEC tourney. They had to have won 40 games during that reg. season.
