Now that the regular season is over.
Does anybody agree with this?
I think he did a great job with the average D-line he had.
3rd downs were still nerve racking.
Still better than last year.

This LSU defense could possibly be the best defense to rarely get QB pressure of all time.

I hate it but ill take it over that co defensive crap. I want to see how it will be if lsu is able to get a d line.

I hate Chavis' defense as well and yes I do agree that 3rd & Chavis is fitting.

That's mostly due to the fact that you are a whining pussy.

The defense was not exciting but played well enough to make every game winnable. It's like a Lou Tepper defense that works better.

the scheme seemed to put a pretty heavy burden on our DBs.. there was virtually no pressure on the QB ever..

I saw plenty of 3rd and Chavis. In fact, the Arkansas game gave me a whole season's worth of 3rd and Chavis.

Seriously, Chavis's first year. He runs a zone/blitz defense. You take gambles, you give up big plays, but at the end of the day you come out ahead.

Yup. I dont know if I've ever seen a defense so unimpressive to look at and that gave up so much yardage and yet kept teams out of the end zone so well.

I agree... Without Patrick Peterson, we would have been in trouble this year.

I can't remember going a whole year where our D didn't get beat over the top. This to me is incredible. Maybe I'm just not remembering, but the only plays that come to mind are the Riley Cooper td and a play in the Arkansas game. And it's not like Cooper did it legitly.

There is no doubt that LSU gives up yards, but not points but if the offense could move the ball consistently (a good running game would help), the defenses numbers would look much better.

I think it's basically a 4-2-5 which we did very well with. It doesn't look like a 4-2-5 because the ss/lbs were never centered, but looking at the blitz packages thats what I think it is.

I think with a more dominant defensive line (hopefully in the future) it will be even more effective if our ends and dt's require double team blocking.

Its also good because if the O coordinator is smarter than you, you still stand a good chance of stopping him because you don't have to guess what he's doing as accurately. If he doesn't pick plays in anticipation of your blitz / zone packages he's gonna have problems, unless ofcourse, his qb is a stud, or if he has a RB that can stick it in your gut.

I do believe we will see a much better product in the bowl as well as spring and next season.

Chavis' D generated turnovers much better than last year, converting a few for TD's that were crucial. Without defensive TD's we lose to MSU and possibly Washington.

I agree
Lack of pressure on mallet especially on 3rd downs was tough to watch though.

Yea but no pressure isn't always bad. If he has a ss/lb/cb hitting him at release on 1st and 2nd down his timing might be quick and on 3rd down he might get rid of the ball too quickly with no pressure, throwing into an unseen zone. We did do pretty well with take aways and I think that's why
