33-13 Coach Aranda Put in Work

I think Coach Aranda did an amazing job with the game plan, as evident in the first half.
Bama was in desperation mode the second half, aka four down territory, and it’s pretty tough to game plan against that.
Don’t forget that d-line/pass rushing simply isn’t a strength this year. That was the best damn O-line we will see all year and it’s damn near impossible to get pressure all game long.
The only glaring fault was the bump and run coverage on the last Bama possession.
Otherwise, I’m pretty damn happy with how Coach Aranda has utilized the talent on the field. He had to game plan with an injured Delpit and losing a key linebacker for the season.
There are some things we will improve on, but Aranda and the defense got the job done.

I agree the defense was stellar in the first half. I haven't had a chance to re-watch the game. Did we stop bringing the pressure in the second half? Or did Bama do a better job of blocking?

3rd quarter says hold my beer.

The defense played well enough in the 1st half.
2nd half, not so much.
Thank God our offense is fantastic.

They did a better job blocking
Tua was making some quick throws and Nahjee Harris made the run game a real threat.
There was also a 3rd and 19 they converted with a crossing route with like 3 defenders writhing 10 feet of the WR.
Alabama is a good team. It’s hard to stop a good balanced attack.
A lot of the Aranda haters aren’t really saying what they would do different outside the last play which was admirably frustrating.

Once he lost all of his cornerbacks and was left with freshmen and a banged up Delpit his secondary couldn’t hold up without a pass rush.

I think it’s crazy how some on here think Divinty leaving just a week before this game didn’t hurt. That was a pretty big loss to a defense that already struggled to get pressure on the QB.

3rd and long has killed us all year. I think missing a strong cover safety has hurt us.

Take away the punt return, and LSU gave up 34.
That's about all you can ask for when you play an offense as explosive as Bama's.
Teams probably think the same thing about LSU.
You're not going to stop guys like Tua, Harris, Waddle, Diggs, and Jeudy for 60 minutes.
Your best bet is to slow them down enough so that you can out-score them. LSU certainly did that. I'd say mission accomplished for Aranda and the defense.

We don’t have the depth to go all out for 4 quarters. That’s just all there is to it. Look back at our “big games”.
Texas- plays an outstanding first half of football. I believe we chose to go all out in the first half because of their dynamic offense. Wanted to get a big lead in the first half and milk it.
Florida- We had an outstanding second half. I believe we did this because Florida was the first “real defense” we faced. The coaches were not as confident we could score on them at will. So they played conservative defense to slow Florida down and “tested the waters” with our offense against theirs. Once it was clear they could not stop our offense, we went all out defense in the second half and shut them down.
Bama- We approached the exact same way we did Texas. We knew their defense could t stop us from the start so we wanted to try and get a big lead.

Yes, lack a strong cover safety, and also have one lacking in the ability to tackle

I love Dave but he really pissed me off at the end of the game. WTF are you thinking playing man coverage on the outside receivers with 1:30 left in the game?
You want to keep everything in front of you so Bama can't go over the top at that point. I really wanted to beat those fricks by double digits.

I don't think he was quite ready to play prevent defense.
Bama's offense is fully capable of gouging a prevent defense for 25 yards a pop, and scoring almost as fast as the 85-yard bomb (anybody remember that 2002 LSU-Arkansas game?). For the vast majority of teams, 1:30 left is not much time at all. But for Bama's offense, it's an eternity. They also had 2 timeouts left.
Obviously, his decision to force the issue backfired big-time. I'm sure he realizes that.
Yeah, in hindsight it looks like a moronic decision, but that's what hindsight is.

I completely agree. Go back and watch the replay. There’s about a two second view of Coach O being doused with Gatorade. You’ll see in the back ground Aranda. He’s not smiling at all. Arguably the biggest win in his coaching career and he’s not happy. Thank God we have Aranda as DC. Geaux Tigers!!!

Best defensive mind we have had since Saban. For a coordinator? Unsurpassed at LSU. We need to keep him as long as we can. Just think back to Carl Reese, Tepper, and Chief. Muschamp was young and under Saban's wing. Pelini was dependent upon premier athletes at every position.

Teams have been running up and down the field on LSU all year. At some point, the excuses for the defense need to stop and Aranda needs to earn his millions.

Bamas final possession is the reason they are ahead of oregon goddamn it

The plan was great we started to give up chunk yardage after guys started dropping like flies. We had at least 6 starters banged up and even the guys who came back weren’t close to the same. We also had a couple fluke plays and more missed tackles. But as far as Aranda and the scheme, it was brilliant.
