When I was at LSU he was Big Man on Campus. Sorry, Hodson you were second.
RIP Don. You will live in Tiger lore forever.

quote:
Don Redden (died March 8, 1988) was an American basketball player. Redden, a 6-foot-5 guard/forward for Louisiana State University (LSU) who averaged 13 points and five rebounds as a senior in 1985–86, was captain of the LSU team that reached the 1986 Final Four. During the 1986 NCAA tournament, Redden averaged more than 20 points per game, earning MVP honors for the Southeast Regional.
In 2009, he was voted to LSU's All-Century team.[1] He finished his college career at LSU's 14th all-time leading scorer and still ranks among the top 10 on the school's all-time free-throw percentage leaders.
In 1988, at the age of 24, Redden died of ideopathic cardiomyopathy (heart failure) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.[2] He is buried in Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, near former LSU star Pete Maravich, a member of the NBA Hall of Fame.
RIP Don. You will live in Tiger lore forever.

I was at the SEC Tournament game a day or two later at the Assembly Center when LSU beat Vandy. Ricky Blanton went in the crowd and gave the Redden family the game ball. Not a dry eye in the house.

Me too. I missed one home game in his career and went to the Purdue, Memphis State and Kentucky games in the tourney. I was devastated when he died. We all were. And so soon after the Pistol. It felt like we were cursed.

Don was a good friend of our family and I was really young when he would come visit us (grew up in Monroe). Probably around 5-6 years old. All I remember is him being SO HUGE! He was a gentle giant for sure and I have fond memories of him. Very high character guy. I will never forget how bummed my parents were when they got the news....I was maybe 7 at the time.

He was an example of a player that stayed in school and got better and better...No one thought that team had a chance at the beginning.

He was a very impressive guy. He had a kind of low-ego demeanor and he worked his arse off. He used the glass in that tourney run better than anybody I ever saw. He just had perfect touch using the glass from the side-it was uncanny.
