1990 LSU vs Florida State Even though this was in Tallahassee this was the "SEC Game of the Week" as Florida State was still an independent. On their scoreboard at Doak Campbell they had FSU and LOUISIANA STATE. I guess they were going to show the SEC who the real _SU was.

Awful game. They made a 40 or 50 yard hail mary on the last play of the first half to go up 28-3 at halftime. Bowden still had most of his starters including the cheap shot artist, Kirk Carruthers in on the last play.

This was not a proud moment, but what was irksome is how the media played this out as "Mike Archer has lost control of his team" while Florida State arguably started it and most certainly didn't back down.

1990’s Florida State football.

13 losses in the entire decade.

Just to put things in perspective, Alabama from 2010-2020 had only 15 losses. FSU had only 13.

The Alabama number is much more impressive given the implementation of the CFP and conference title games (which wasn’t a thing for the ACC back then)

Debatable.

In my humble opinion, college football was at its peak in the 90’s.

cfb is much more competitive now than it was in the 90s. With almost every game being televised it has evened the playing field for recruiting. One reson I think a team like Nebraska will never be what they once were.

I remember the FSU return trip to Tiger Stadium in 1991...that was a downpour of rain in the 2nd half of that one!!

I was at that game in Tallahassee. Terrible game. Wasn't that the game in which Michael Brooks tore his knee up? I remember listening to Bobby Bowden on the radio after the game blaming the brawl on LSU being frustrated because of the score. (There may have been some truth to that).

FSU played decent schedules back then. it can be argued much tougher than ACC one

But you aren’t comparing them to a current day ACC school so I don’t see how that matters

They shouldn’t have hit Jessie late out of bounds.

If I'm not mistaken, Brooks tore his knee at Florida a few years earlier?
