revolutionary new technique
LSU is trying out a revolutionary new technique under Coach O. It is called game-planning. Now instead of practicing until they have no more legs they actually spend time watching film. They are trying to pick up the other team's tendencies and weaknesses and figure out how to take advantage of them.
In the past LSU did the exact same things no matter who they played so they could just stay on the practice field for every second of allotted time.

But, is 30 minutes enough...? That seems awfully short.

30 minutes does seem very short, but in this case, they are certainly spending much more time watching film and discussing game plans off the field.
Also consider the bye week implications... Coach O said that last week during the bye, they had two Alabama practices where they spent time preparing for the game this weekend. The kids have already put plenty of time prepping for this game. The mental aspect will be there come game time, key to this week is keeping those legs fresh.

You realize that was one day, right? It's not everyday. You're taking one practice and act like it's every day

O is taking the Costanza approach and doing the opposite. He's seen the team get tired down the stretch in these close games vs. Bama and he wants to make sure this team is able to salt them away.
It's the same thing he's been doing since he's taken over and it seems to be working well based on the 2nd half stats.

30 minutes on field is not enough. Conditioning comes into play in a game especially 4thquarter
Jesus......
There is nothing going on days before a game, conditioning wise, to make them stronger in the 4th quarter. That work is done May-August. In November it's all about staying fresh.

The on-the-field portion was 30 minutes. At this stage of the season-- daily-- full pads, full speed for hours is not needed. Technique, tendencies of other team and film study, way more important than beating the hell out each other.

This is how they practice in the NFL.
Completely irrelevant.
Yes, because professional football players and especially their coaches don't know that the f''k their doing when it comes to practice. You're an idiot!

What you don't get is that is 30 min of scrimmage. Doesn't count conditioning and the rest of practice.

I read where the media was allowed to watch only the FIRST 30 minutes of practice. I got the impression that they kept going after shooing the media away.

This and they will practice more Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, the mental part of the game is huge. You want your guys confident and fresh going into the game. If they feel like they know what's coming that gives them an edge and they can react much faster, play more sound football. Guys watching film together is much more effective then guys watching on their own IMO. They can communicate how each other will react on a given play and be confident that the next guy is doing his own job. In fact I believe they need to spend more time studying film this week then any other week. I like what they doing its working.

It was longer. They watched film first.

Vs miles and his 3-4 hour practices.
1) There is no way Miles' practices were this long
2) There is no way O's practices are only 30 minutes
3) Most of you are retarded

Agreed. We will be fresher and healthier for this game then we've been for a Bama game in years.
Heard on radio that overall team speed has improved since O took over. They have ways to constantly measure that and have noticed a huge difference with the shorter practices. Fresh legs will be a huge key to beating Bama.

Lighter field practice could be the single biggest factor to the product we've seen in games under O.

Coach O didn't just pull this out of his arse you know. This is the exact schedule that PETE CARROLL ran at USC.
I'd say it worked out very well for him/them.
