I really don't want to question Coach O and the staff as I understand the importance of shortening practice for keeping players fresh.

But, is 30 minutes enough...? That seems awfully short.

they only do 30 minutes on Mondays after they watch film. all the other practices are longer but still not as long as they used to be.

That's just 30 min on the field. The team still has other forms of practice in position meetings and the film room.

I think they don't count warming up and position drills. And then the go thru practice so it maybe more about a hour

Good gosh, some people are so ignorant

It's 30 minutes ON THE FIELD. They do hours of film watching. In this day and age, film is just as important as being physically ready. This is something Les refused to acknowledge. He wanted to pound guys every day, and watch little film.

There is a direct line to terrible QB play and lack of film being watched

I understand the importance of film. Film is something that should be watched as a position group or unit. However, film is something that can also be watched individually.

I'm not advocating for the team to go out there in full pads and beat the shite out of each other for 2.5 hours. A happy medium (1hr 15 minutes) seems like it would be perfect. The units can go through individual, the QB/WR can work on timing routes, the team can fine tune any last minute wrinkles.

Physically seeing and doing something (even if it is only a walk-through) is better than observing something on film. 30 minutes just doesn't seem like sufficient time to capitalize.

Maybe I'm wrong. It's not like we're playing the recent 4 time national champion, 20 game win streak, #1 team in the country....oh wait...

30 minutes on field is not enough. Conditioning comes into play in a game especially 4thquarter

At this point, a week after the bye, what do you think will be accomplished by working these kids? We have a team full of veterans that know what they're doing and knows what Bama will be doing. Just because they're not on the field doesn't mean they're not watching film. Relax and let this whole thing play out. What we've done in the past obviously wasn't working so let's give something else a shot.

Its the anti-Miles approach. I like it.

You want them fresh, like a thoroughbred racehorse that hasnt run in a few days, chomping at the bit, ready to tear loose.

This guy gets it. College football is about resource management. You get 20 hours/week worth of coaching with the players. You can allocate that however you want. In the past, we used most of it for on the field instruction, then gave the players DVDs to watch for film study on their own along with open access to the film room.

This shift is closer to what Jimbo does at FSU. Where there's a higher percentage of time spent teaching in the film room than on the field.

Vs miles and his 3-4 hour practices.. it's
About keeping your legs. Monday's are typically light practice days anyway. They watch film and go through their game plan on both sides of the ball.
