I can't remember Landry having any catchable drops.
Think he dropped the HB pass from Ware vs UW?
Oddly, the TE's (Clement and Jacobs) have done well catching the ball.

That pass was well underthrown.

There are degrees of "drops". I mean sometimes, a "drop" is a ball that was catchable, wasn't caught, and it's called a drop (think that ROCKET that OBJ didn't catch on the short out route that would have been a first down).
Then there's most of our drops - the inexusable, wtf, how in the world, I could have made that catch, are you sure you're a D1 college receiver, there's no way you should EVER that drop kinda drops. And that's what most of ours have been.
4 drops a game to a team that chucks it 45 times isn't much of a deal.
4 drops a game to a team that needs nearly every perfectly executed pass play to work will kill that type of team offensively.
People can talk about the O line all they want. I'm laying more than 50% of our offensive woes squarely on dropped passes, because they kill drives, which kills point total.

Against UF, Mett was 5-12 out of the shotgun...-with 4 drops!!!!

It is not like we are starting with crappy players, they are 4 star receivers that caught the ball very well in HS and ran great routes, hence the 4 stars. How do we screw that up, is our WR coaching so piss poor we make NO progress or get worse with teaching
High school and college are not the same ball game.
Ask Shep! Game is faster and players at the college level are as good if not better than they faced in High School!

This is where I'm at, more or less. I'm looking at about roughly 1 drop per game, give or take, is a "Okay - counts as a drop, but it would have required a hella effort and we give him that one.", maybe a little more than 1. That still leaves 2 to 3 (closer to 3) drops per game that have taken upwards of 20 points off the board (and that is conservative as 3 drops negated TDs directly, or a nearly automatic one - others killed drives that were nearing FG range).

Sounds like changing Mett to an option QB should help. (just kidding).

So, we have a QB completing 62% and to be successful, this offense would require 23 additional passes caught and over a 77% completion rate.
Dropped passes are a problem, but they do happen. And when your offense puts so much pressure on itself that we would need perfection to score ONE touchdown against a good D...your scheme, technique, or something else is very wrong.
1 and goal from the 6, there is no way we shouldn't flex our muscle, instead we bring in 14 for a jump pass after having our immobile QB take 4 seconds to turn his rig around on aROLLOUT, with no run threat...it is obvious or coaches don't have a strategy. Three plays, three completely different thought processes.
Play action to a TE? NAAAHHHH a rollout. Ford or Shep to the edge...naaaahhhh jump pass

I have never seen a group of receivers that allow the ball to come into their bodies to catch instead of catching it with their hands as much as this group. If we could see individual drops in video I think we would see how many of the balls are coming into the receiver and bouncing off of their chest, shoulders etc.

What's the average for dropped passes for a team?

That's what I'm wondering. According to NFL stats I can find, just under 10% of "catchable" balls are dropped.
You'd have to think the college average is somewhat worse so my guess would be 1 of 8 are dropped on average in college.

So we have thrown 144 times, and NFL receivers would drop 14. Have to assume most college receivers drop at least 50% more. So we have 21 drops for averages and we have 23.
Unless we got some 21 Point touchdowns with those other two we would still blow pretty hard

I think you would need do the math by catchable balls Mett has thrown instead of overall attempts since those include non-catchable balls:
89 completions + 23 drops = 112 catchable balls thrown
So, the NFL average would be about 11 drops instead of 23. My guess is college average would probably be about 14-15 or so instead of 23.

In the defense of the Receivers, Mett doesn't exactly put it between the numbers neither... He throws them behind, low and really high up a lot of times
Not all passes are going to be perfect...it's the receiver's job to make the play and go after the ball even if it isn't a perfect throw.
forget about the tough catches, our receivers are dropping the easy ones.
Our DB's have better hands than the WR's do. Maybe they should give them some pointers

The Saints and Falcons currently lead the NFL in drops. They are both averaging 3 per game. The Panthers are the best in the NFL, averaging 1.2 (The Buccaneers had a bye week so 6 drops in 4 games for an average of 1.5 drops per game).
Here is an in-depth breakdown of drop percentage for receivers in the NFL from 2008-2010.

Practice does not make perfect...perfect practice makes perfect.
This tells me (confirms for me) that there is no discipline in practice.
You will do in a game that which you practice.
Penalties have been part of that for years...
...
a couple of properly timed "dropped" passes can kill a drive and may make the diff between winning and losing...
unacceptable..IMO.
we dropped 26, out of haw many ?
I'd like to know if anyone knows what "an acceptable" number of passes is ?
I know we want 100% completion, but there is never going to be 100% over a few games.

Look at the posts right above yours. Basing it off NFL averages, seems that around 14-15 for the amount LSU has thrown would be average for college instead of 23.
