I've maintained for a while the biggest issue was OL protection followed up by excessive drops, then you get to a few times Joe just either made a bad throw or held onto ball too long...ranking those in order of most to least to blame for passing game woes last year

Following his twitter thread the average drop rate seems to be about 8.5%

So we averaged about 0.6 more drops a game than the average team

Doesnt seem like it moves the needle that much

I figured it would be higher. I guess it got better as the season went on but we had an issue early.

It was definitely more an issue early on, I remember one of those first few games we had like 6 drops in 1 game.

Our OTs are the biggest problem on the roster but it doesn't help if our recievers drop the ball.

Damn, Maryland's athletic department screwed Canada by not giving his WRs enough JUGS time.

And there you have it. 0.6 drops/game is enough to make a guy go from Heisman-worthy "top 5 QB" to getting no draftable grade. Razor thin margins, braah.

That's the difference between us and an average team. But we don't want to be an average team.

So you think "average drops" will get you any wins in the playoffs?

Honestly there doesn’t seem to be much correlation with this stat and success

Here are the lowest drop rates

1. Stanford 4.1%
2. Oregon State 4.4%
3. Nebraska 4.8%
4. Michigan 5.0%
5. Notre Dame 5.1%
6. Washington State 5.4%
6. NC State 5.4%
8. Alabama 5.5%
8. Ole Miss 5.5%
10. Syracuse 5.6%

I'm no math genius but if LSU is at 10.9% and the average is 8.5%, How does that equate to .6%? Shouldn't it be 2.4% which would move the needle a good bit...

Yes, it is 2.4%, or about 0.6 drops per game

It's funny how when watching the games last year it "felt" like we dropped more than were caught. I'm surprised it ended up being "only" 10%.

If we cut that number in half, does this put Burrow at a 63% completion rate?

Basing it off last year’s numbers alone.

Depends on how he is calculating "drop rate'. i.e. what formula

I would Assume it’s drops per attempt

No

I would imagine it would raise his completion pct by about 1-2%
