This is a spin off to the other thread Tyrus Thomas. He could jump out of the gym.

How did we lose?I remember we beat duke's arse. And with that all star lineup.

We scored 45 points. Can't win many games with that. Only Mitchell and Big Baby had 12 and 14 points. Everyone else, including Thomas didn't score much at all.

Howland definitely outcoached Brady
LSU gotta a little too full of themselves for just making it taking out Duke and Texas who had more talent

My recollection is that Jordan Farmar, Luc Mbah a Moute and Aaron Afflalo ran roughshod over our guys.

I just remember UCLA moving the ball around until they had an open shot. LSU looked lost defensively.

It was never close. I was just graduated from LSU and got to go to a lot of basketball games in those days. Basically we reverted back to Brady ball (in a nutshell) and got ran out of the gym.

UCLA never really had an insurmountable lead, but the way we were shooting it felt insurmountable

LSU reached the Final Four on the back of their great defense. So did UCLA. Unfortunately, UCLA's offense was better than LSU's. LSU was awful on offense in the first half (Brady's teams were rarely good offensively) and couldn't make a basket. That allowed UCLA to get a big lead they never relinquished.

A soul crushing loss because I really felt LSU had a chance to beat Florida for the NC. LSU had played UF 2x that season (losing both). However, IIRC, Thomas didn't play in either game. It would have been fun to see LSU play vs. Florida at full strength for the NC.

I remember our offense was nothing special that year.

Finally caught up to us against an elite team

That was a TOUGH week for me. First they beat Memphis, not as badly, but convincingly. Then they pounded LSU. I already didn’t like UCLA, but I fricking LOATHED them after that season.

I great enjoyed watching Memphis beat the shite out of them with Westbrick two years later.

Was just gonna say this. Farmar, Afflalo, Mbah a Moute, Ryan Hollins and Darren Collison all played at least a decade each in the NBA.

Duke was severely overrated that year. UCLA had like 4 NBA guys and bigger bodies. We had 2 and one of them was gassed by the end of the first half

It wasn't the players. It was Glen. Had class with Tasmin not long after afterward and he said they all thought Baby saying the "tape earworms in our bellies" stuff was dumb as hell.

If we're being honest, LSU overachieved during the postseason. It had been an unexpected dream run up until then before reality set in and UCLA ran roughshod over LSU. It was very apparent that UCLA was on a totally different level--from both a talent and coaching standpoint.
